When Mitchell was speaking this week he mentioned they both had a lot of respect for each other but fell short of saying anything else.

 

Eddie probably thought he was shot of a SD when Ashworth disappeared and is probably perplexed at the role the other guy has,  making sure injuries don't stack up when you've got coaching staff and physio staff already alongside each other.

Surely he doesn't think he would have the same control over the club that he would've had at third division Bournemouth? 

Most modern high profile clubs have sporting directors and he's seen the impact breaching PSR can have.

Then he needs to toughen up, or take the England job IMO.

 

If we’re aiming to be an elite club then we need to start acting like one now - that includes adding in those additional checks and balances.  I don’t think any fan disagrees with the performance director appointment after last year so I don’t personally see why Howe would either. As a manager I think he should appreciate that extra insight.

There's definitely something in the idea that Howe probably needs to adjust to how a big club operates. As do the rest of us. 

 

When you look at the size of the staff at Man City, drop Howe into that situation and he'd be feeling the same or worse than he is now, but they're the ones that are doing it right.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting for a second that we're too big for Howe. He has been instrumental in the "professionalisation" of the club in its current form. 

 

But we're not even halfway along the journey to being a properly big club, and he's probably going to have to loosen his grip on all sorts of things along that path. It'll be beneficial in the long run, hopefully, but it'll be jarring when it happens, which is probably what we're currently seeing.
