Looks like Souness was an advisor as Nobby is playing in the centre there!!!

People in football won't want to hear it but you can't fault the toon defence under Roeder, 5 games only 1 goal conceded and we've only had about 5 fit defenders, sometimes 4 to pick from, have had to play people out of positon and have been don to 10 men at Villa.

Individually toon defenders are never as bad as the media and even some toon fans love to portray them, but collectively they were so poorly coached and organised and had no confidence.

As things stand there are only 6 prem teams with a better record than us this season, and that includes our players having to cope with Souness and his "coaching".

Now obviously we don't want just the 7th best defence in the prem we ideally want one at least in the top 6 statistically, but we can work on that and i'm sure next season will see more than one defender having been bought.

Roeder got it spot on with his comments in the papers yesterday. He said he was shocked that they weren't communicating, and well he basically criticised Souness all through. Just goes to show he knows what he's talking about.

I've noticed that with Roeder since he took over. Every interview he's too decent a bloke to rip the previous bunch of tossers to shreds, but he isn't shy of pointing out what he's done differently and the things he thinks are essential and even basics of coaching that were severely lacking at this club.

And surely anyone with even the slightest knowledge of football (thats Souness ruled out) knows you get your back four organised into a unit, have them well drilled and make sure they communicate with each other at all times.

It all sounds terribly similar to the noises that came out of Blackburn when Mark Hughes took over.
