Does anyone else find it a bit weird how much this is playing out in public with all the detail about our second bid leaked? Doesn’t seem our style, unless Leicester are trying to flush out other bidders.

That’s the thing though. We can be watertight but we’ve got little to no  control at the other end of the deal

Am I right in thinking that it's a bit odd for Hope to be running stories about Chelsea trying to buy a Brighton player. I mean he is the Northern football writer for the Daily Mail. Perhaps he knows that if Chelsea get Cucurella they're unlikely to go for Fofana, thereby leaving us clear to get Maddison with them not getting the 80m for Fofana.

I've defended 90minutes before and cited their early breaking of the Ekitike saga, but I've revised that opinion to them being clickbait wind up merchants 😂 They don't mention Dubravka in the article, so perhaps they did reject the bid, but we've said alright how about we throw in Dubravka.

You keep mentioning Dubravka like he's our second keeper - I'm not so sure, he's probably better than Pope ?

I think you're right or they're close enough that it makes no difference. Other than that if we're going to be pushing Europe, and we're talking about two like for like keepers, it's always better to have the English one.

Dubravka hasn't been the same since returning from injury IMO. I'd have the level pegging only because I've obviously seen not as much from Pope. Distribution and composure will be the most important factors for who prevails. In that order.

Watching them you'd think they were pretty similar, diving deeper though Pope comes out ahead on just about every statistical metric over Dubs.

What is quite surprising, given his and Burnleys reputation is that Pope outstrips Dubravka by a long way on sweeping.

Watch out.  Fish will be wanting a word if you start using statistics

That probably says it all given how focused on analysis and statistics Howe is. If he starts with Dubravka it will be through loyalty and continuity but Pope will win out in the short to mid term and be our first choice keeper. With that in mind if Dubravka can be used as a make weight to improve our tram elsewhere then I'd not have a problem with it. For his sake I'd rather him play elsewhere than sit on the bench here.

Time to start wielding our dirty oil money. Whip out £60mil today and have Maddison in the lineup on Saturday

agreed. if you going to pay £50m you may as well give them what they want and increase it to £60m with add ons. I’m all for driving a hard bargain but it’s time to show the sceptics we’re not here to make up the numbers.

Bit of a fanny rat too even as far as footballers go, by all accounts. I can see him loving the Newcastle nightlife. This team’s Gavin Harris

They need to stop fucking about at times tbh

This is always going to be the case when we go in for players that clubs don't want to sell unless, of course, they're desperate for cash.

give them £50m up front, plus an extra £10m in add-ons if he plays 30+ games a season and we qualify for the champions league during the duration of his contract.
