Effectively, if we can't buy players in the positions we want then me may decide to strengthen other areas of the team to improve the overall squad. I may be reading too much into it, but Paqueta could be the back up if we can't find a decent striker or winger Agreed, he could also be staying on message with the clubs push back against the view clubs have that there’s a bottomless pit of money. If we had the defence we have, with a Bruno, Joe, and Paqueta midfield, then bought or loaned a lower target RW like Sarr, Cornet, Hudson-Odoi I think we’d have enough up top with all the creativity and the ability to keep the line of possession higher up the pitch.
Ayatollah Hermione 14560
Hudson-Odoi seems like a classic deadline day loan when Chelsea are clearing decks. Wouldn’t be against him either, looked the business until Tuchel came in and tried to turn him into a wing-back

Polarboy 2317
He's arguably rawer than even Ekitike if you look at his age, stats, starts etc. 19 year old kid although he turns 20 at the end of the month, 36 apps for Bordeaux, but only 9 of those were starts, 7 goals, 4 assists. It's out of left field to say the least, but if Atletico are after him as well he's probably decent, they have top class scouts. Who knows how legit this French twatter bloke is, but if we are actually after him, we clearly aren't afraid of potentially having to be patient for a kid like this to mature. Then again Ashworth literally wanted to buy Nunez before he went to Benfica, so he knows more than me 🧐

Polarboy 2317
Arsenal are supposedly ready to allow Pepe to be sold for a third of what they paid for him, with a bid of between 20 to 25m enough to get him. Leeds are reportedly interested in making a bid. I'm not sure what went wrong for Pepe, but he's definitely a very talented player on his day, and his record in France before he got his move was insane. I wouldn't doubt Howe if he thought he could get him back to something approaching that form. At the price stated it's probably well worth the risk. The only thing you have to question is if it's an attitude issue, can something like that really be solved. In an ideal world he would come, find form, and cement that right wing spot for himself. He's almost exactly the profile of player we're looking for i.e. goal scoring right winger. He's just a bit older than Howe and co would like with him have just turned 27. Howay 12496
If this happens I fully expect we will see upstanding impeccable moral mackems like exile walk away from SAFC, their club would be partly ran by blood money if the deal goes through so they couldn’t possibly keep supporting the club. Polarboy 2317
The Knight Rider has said that he asked the club about Asensio and it hasn't been ruled out as of yet. I was under the impression that Asensio was staying at Madrid, but perhaps not.

Polarboy 2317
Yeah they'll want at least some money for him, but perhaps he's nervous about moving just before the World Cup and not getting in the Spain squad. Then again if he's not getting regular game time for Madrid he likely won't anyway.
Polarboy 2317
Leeds slap £35m price tag on Jack Harrison amid interest from Newcastle | Daily Mail Online If this is accurate then my assumption about his price was correct, and I still think that's too expensive for what he is.
Kid Dynamite 7560
Some of our less sensible fans aren't taking the Ekitike news well. Im disappointed too, but it's not hard to understand why a young French lad would want to play in the Champions League and win Ligue 1 alongside Messi, Neymar and Mbappe

ohhh_yeah 3051
Zapata and Paqueta as the last two signings of this window would be immense. Can I actually say mouth watering! Thank you, Dan Ashworth.
Kid Dynamite 7560
Chris Waugh reckons we have about £30-40mins left to spend. Broja was attractive because we could loan him and spend the rest of our budget on a RW. Our options seem to be thinning out now. If we end up with no attacking reinforcements you need to question the wisdom of dropping £40mins on a CB and GK, which were fairly low on our list of positions needing strengthening
Polarboy 2317
Glass half full maybe we've made some progress on another target, and so didn't feel the need to go back in for Broja again. You would hope by the end of next week we'll see some substantial movement on someone. Of course it's also likely that moving to West Ham was just the most convenient option for Broja if he's only going to be going on loan. They could be happy consolidating I suppose but with this lack of attack it’s a bit of a momentum killer. The thing that makes me seriously doubt it is that firstly it’s not really how FFP works, so when these journalists say “there’s only £35m left” it’s not accurate it’ll depend on timing of payments, agent fees, player contract etc etc. Secondly I don’t understand going for the players we’ve been after - how were we ever going to sign Diaby and Ekitike together? Surely the plan was never to only bring in Ekitike. If this is the budget then why aren’t we in for Sarr, Dennis, Cornet, maybe even working on Toney and Harrison earlier to try and get their valuations lower. It just all seems a bit off for me. The other angle could possibly be that they’re saying £40m for FFP in the same way they said £60m to Edwards early in the window. Which could be accurate? As if you say Botman was £35m over 5 years plus wages of £4m a year he’d be £11m against that £60m (obviously oversimplified everything as there’ll be other things involved I’m sure). Polarboy 2317
Best case scenario is that most stuff you see in the papers is almost pure speculation, and Ashworth and co will sign two or three players in a very short space of time, one or two of which will comes as a nice surprise, perhaps not have even been mentioned as possibilities. Chris Waugh and few others have hinted that we're trying to buy someone who hasn't been reported on as of yet.

Polarboy 2317
So they're after Broja and Scamacca, and already have Antonio obviously vying for one spot up top? Seems unlikely, but I suppose with Antonio's fitness concerns, and the fact that Broja can play wide it's not totally out of the question. I'd have to admit I'd be more than a little envious if West Ham pulled off both those transfers given our current position in the market.
