I wouldn’t spend £50 million on him even, I think the team at Brentford is designed to get the best out of him specifically. He wouldn’t get that here, doesn’t pass my eye test.

Probably go on to win the ballon d’or now I’ve said it though

It feels like clubs are putting a £100m price tag on anyone these days & it’s most certainly a consequence of PSR.

I can see the Mbappe/Salah/Trent type contract situation become more normal unless something about PSR is changed. Players will look to run down their contracts if they arent happy and other clubs cant come in due to inflated fees and PSR.

Yeah £100m is just a "fuck off he's ours" kind of pricetag, surely?

When Liam Delap is available £30m?

He's got a £30m release clause which is triggered by relegation apparently (Delap). I wouldn't say no to that.

Yeah half the league will be after him for that and he'll have his pick.

We should be in for him just to see if we can, as an option with Isak he'd be perfect.

You look at chelsea, and man u (the two biggest links Ive seen for him) and they can offer him money but not much else.

we've got an upwardly mobile club and a coach with a proven record of devloping players (not even just young ones) to playing at an incredibly high standard. We're a good option.

Yeah, he's young enough to play second fiddle or make appearances from the bench, without stalling his career. He's talented enough to be the lead striker for all but a couple of teams. £30m is chump change for a young English centre forward who's had a good start to his Premier League career.

Hell, I'd buy him and if he's insisting on starts loan him out to Wolves or whomever.

If he's given the option of Chelsea, Man United, and us, and picks either of those two, he's having a shocker.

Arsenal seems the obvious place, but they might think they're better than him. No point in going to Man City other than to pick up medals for sitting on the bench.

i see we've been linked with hugo ekitike again. he'd be a good rotation option for isak/replacement for wilson. he's done the business since going to frankfurt and getting regular game time. whether he'd want to come to a club where he's not a guaranteed starter after wasting a couple of years on the bench at psg is another matter. he's also a similar profile to isak and could provide cover out wide. he went to frankfurt for less than £20m and is probably going to cost double that now so it could be that we missed the boat.

I think we might replace Longstaff and it could be a serious upgrade too. Though the obvious upgrade would be someone to replace Joelinton, we already have Willock that slots in there. There'll only be Miley as cover for the other two if SL leaves unless I'm forgetting someone. I want quality over numbers though.

We were going to spend 30 on him 2 years ago, weren't we? 40m two years later, when he's realised some of his potential, isn't that much of a premium.

From what I've seen the price seems much higher than that. I can't see Frankfurt giving him away for buttons (in regular goal scorer terms).

Importantly they can guarantee him that he’ll be their main striker. We can’t do that. At his age his most important focus should be on playing minutes. Saying that, any young player who goes to Man U at the moment needs their head checked.

Market valuation, according to Transfermarkt, is 55m euros. Not sure we will be spending that much on a rotation striker, but if he can provide cover on the flanks we might. his numbers since moving to Franfurt are decent. And crucially, he is similar profile to Isak

Really? Tonali and Bruno might be ahead of him in the pecking order, but I think Joelinton is the hardest profile to replace. Big, powerful, tenacious, defensive instincts, decent technically and all that good stuff. But with the added bonus of his personality, friendships and loyalty to Newcastle.

This is what I was getting at. I probably meant challenge Joelinton tbh not replace but as I said Willock is there for that. We will need to replace Longstaff though and it's going to need to be someone that's going to be content with being backup. I generally don't like signing players in that bracket, you want someone with first 11 credentials and aspirations.

I just meant replacing Bruno or Tonali might actually be easier, more players like them around, imo.
