McTominay is just about price…if we’re battling on 2/3 fronts post Christmas next season he’s a good addition. No more than 25/30 mill though. If Man Utd want to sell to a rival that is 🤷🏻‍♂️

Yeah he’’d be job sharing with Longy & Willock. If we’re in Europe there’s potentially at least a dozen more games, I imagine that’s their thinking. But wtf do I know?… I really don’t think Man Utd would sell to us at that price tbh

He'd be brining the ability to specialise as a defensive mid, even though he can also play further forward. Longstaff isn't all that comfortable when he plays in front of the defence and Bruno although he can play there is wasted in that position. As I said in another comment if he's over 30m we should look elsewhere, which seems likely given how ridiculous Manure are to deal with.

he wouldn't be a signing to get the pulse racing, but i can see why he might be the sort of player howe would rate - hard worker, high energy and would buy into the pressing style. it's probably the reason why he might favour him over a more glamorous player such as tielemens or neves, who maybe don't have McT's physical attributes.

most were underwhelmed when longstaff signed a new deal but howe saw something in him that he could work with, and he can unquestionably improve players with the right attitude/work ethic.

we are light in central mid, particularly defensive mid, so it adds up and we keep being linked with him (no smoke without fire). i think by turning our noses up at him we're in danger of getting carried away with our own success and possibly also scarred by our recent history of signing cast-offs from the "big" clubs - smith, duff, butt, owen etc.

the thing that would bother me most about signing him is giving the dirty mancs any money. but if howe fancies him it's good enough for me.

Aye. Not sure he’ll come here for the reasons PL gives but, unlike all those listed - Bruno apart - he’d be comfortable sitting in as part of our usual midfield 3 . And Bruno’s a bit wasted there imo. I definitely think there’ll be better options for us. Especially if we sneak a CL spot and also from a value for money point of view

Big difference between a low cost extension of Longstaff's contract and spunking tens of millions on a fairly underwhelming player. The qualities you mention; hard worker, high energy, pressing style, can surely be found in a much, much cheaper option?

I get that he's got PL experience, and I do think our recruitment post-takeover has been very good, I just don't rate him highly at all. Man United fans are pretty happy at the prospect of getting rid of him.

i agree, i don't rate him highly either but to have played as many games as he has for man u, he's obvs got something about him.

i would also agree that there is better value to be found abroad, but if he's who howe wants who am i to question it? how has plenty of credit in the bank and the recruitment has been superb since he came in.

i wasn't that excited when burn or targett signed - i was wrong about both of them. i wasn't thrilled when longstaff signed a new deal - i couldn't have been more wrong. he's been pretty much ever-present and we have big joe (our second best midfielder) playing out wide to accommodate him.

Irrespective of whether he’s a decent option two goals in one international match doesnt settle the argument.

There’s another way of looking at it… the lad has got something to prove. I think when he chose to play for Scotland he got a load of stick but wherever he’s been picked to play by Steve Clark (he was sometimes on the right of a back 3) he got his head down, didn’t listen to the bullshit and was usually a 7/10 most games. Now he’s one of the first names on the team sheet and hugely popular among the fanbase which was inconceivable when he came into the squad. He might have to do it all again at SJP but he’s shown that sort of thing doesn’t phase him. Am sure he’d be a “right I’ll fuckin show Man Utd” sort of character 👍

Are you suggesting Wes Brown wouldn’t have got in our champions league side in front of Bramble and O’Brien? ….

I'm saying Wes Brown was bang average, moved and was worse. Playing a lot of times for Manchester United isn't necessarily a sign of much.

is he an expensive option? yes, but you're paying a premium for PL and champion league experience

does he improve our squad? yes

does he start most games? up for debate

would he want to swap man u's bench for ours? unlikely

would man u sell for a reasonable fee? hard to imagine so after the lingard farce

would we pay over the odds for him? almost certainly not

the deal would have to make sense for all parties. we've shown we won't be taken for mugs. it's a deal i could see happening but there are plenty of moving parts

You’re not entirely wrong, but would he have been an upgrade on what we had? This is obviously pre injury which is why he was replaced with the world class Vidic You’ve picked the wrong player iyam he played 200 + times and won the champs lge :cuppa:

I’m all for signing a deeper sitting midfielder to push Bruno on but I reckon we can find a better deal on the continent as I imagine we’ll have our eyes ripped out by Man Utd. See the Lingard situation for evidence of that. McTominay does have a fuck load of European experience, mind which I can see playing into Howe’s thinking. I also think Mr Eddie Howe may need heavily convinced to sign European based players unless they’re immediately a huge upgrade ala Bruno, Botman and Isak

Who Brown? Yeah he's won the Champions League, but he was shite. Shite players have won loads of things.

If you’d have said Nicky Butt I’d have agreed. You’re thinking post injury mackem Brown. He was definitely better than what we had in that position when we were finishing in the top 5 iyam

I fail to see McTom as a genuine option. He will be overpriced and he's just not that good. There's got to be better DMs at that price with plenty of Euro experience.
