Eddie Howe

I'm just pleased it's something he'll presumably make a full recovery from, given time. Had visions of it being something more sinister.

Hope your daughter's alright CT.

Does it start with a flu that you try to push through or something?

Eddie Howe playing fitness issues close to the chest is so in character it's almost satire

Did you know about pneumonia before everyone else? That’s a hell of a pun if not 😄

Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe will miss the club’s next two games after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Howe watched Newcastle’s 4-1 win over Manchester United on Sunday from his hospital bed, having been admitted on Friday evening after feeling unwell for several days.

Newcastle have now said the 47-year-old will also miss Wednesday’s home match against Crystal Palace and Saturday’s trip to Aston Villa, with assistant Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones due to prepare the team in his absence.

“Newcastle United can announce that Eddie Howe is recovering in hospital after being diagnosed with pneumonia,” a statement read. “The club continues to extend its best wishes and support to Eddie and his family as he continues his recovery. Jason Tindall and Graeme Jones will lead the team against Crystal Palace and Aston Villa this week, with further updates to be communicated in due course.”

Howe, who sent his congratulations to the team after Sunday’s impressive win over United moved them back into the top four, offered thanks for the messages of support he has received.

“A huge thank you to everyone connected with Newcastle United and the wider football community for your messages and warm wishes. They have meant a lot to me and my family,” Howe said. “I also want to pay tribute to our incredible NHS and the hospital staff who have treated me. I’m immensely grateful for the specialist care I’m receiving and, after a period of recovery, I look forward to being back as soon as possible.”

Newcastle have the opportunity to move above Nottingham Forest into third place if they can beat Palace at St James’ Park.

sounds like a case of 'man" flu, something completely alien to me but an ailment you'd attention seek over for days or weeks on end.

Poor JT will be dreading 2 more pressers.

He genuinely does not look comfortable in press conferences, agree there

As for Howe, I'm sure he'll recover ok but that is a bit of a shock. Has to be that he just overworked? I don't even know how you catch it..

Just thinking of those honeyed words about Eddie from Bruce again, 'the fella that got Bournemouth relegated' when someone brought his name up in a Bruce press conference. Apart from example number 452 of how thin skinned he is just try and picture some parallel universe where the new owners listen to the friends of Steve Bruce lobby group and stick with him and 'give him a chance with some backing' We just seen a team battered by us who have spent money and I'm guessing that would've been our fate presuming the stupid cunt would've kept us up in the first place with a few signings.

I had Whooping Cough last month which the GP said was like a mild version of Pneumonia.

Pneumonia must be fucking horrible if it is.

I caught covid right at the beginning and one of the consequences was ending up with pneumonia. It's fucking horrible. You can't breathe/sleep/do anything for coughing. Thankfully it was caught early and antibiotics got rid. Took months before I even started to feel better. Get well soon boss.

My old man caught Pneumonia 6weeks ago and went into hospital but contracted sepsis and ended up with acute renal failure. Fortunately he's pulled through after what very much looked like the end but he's only just out of hospital. I Wish Eddie well.

That sounds absolutely awful. I’m glad he came through it and hope he continues to get stronger.

That does sound horrible. Hospitals are shitty places to spend any extended period of time in. Glad your Dad's on the mend Chaser.

And for Eddie, too, hopefully he's on the mend. Pneumonia can be very scary from all reports. My Dad has had it and it doesn't seem pleasant at all. Hopefully Eddie gets the rest he needs and really does allow himself to recover fully before thinking about work.

I'm sure Mad Dog and co. will hold down the fort in his absence. It's a wonderful bonus having a two man team like Howe-Tindall. In this situation Mad Dog basically can apply a "What Would Eddie Do" principle in the boss's absence and get it basically spot on every time. If the ManU performance is anything to go on we'll be absolutely okay in Howe's absence for another week or so.

As CT mentioned, apart from wishing along with the rest of us that Eddie has a speedy recovery, the biggest concern for Tindall will likely be the media commitments.

Was that the same person he "recommended" to the owners should replace him? :)

That's Rentons job

He could have weakened his immune system by getting wankered with HHHMH after the cup win then grafting like he normally does.

Aye, the fella from Bournemouth who was rocking on his heels after four lager tops.

I’m usually 100% pro NHS , but I’ve got to say that in my experience Renal nurses absolutely take the piss out of their patients.

I asked my lass and apparently it’s a severe chest infection. Caused by a viral or bacterial infection. Treatable with antibiotics. It can lead to further complications like the lung scarring others have mentioned. In rare cases it can be fatal but that’s usually when there are other underlying conditions. He should make a full recovery. There’s a good chance he’s in private care and it might not have led to a hospitalisation normally and this is precautionary. Because I think it would’ve been leaked sooner if he was in somewhere like the RVI.
