The defensive stats are absolutely staggering tbh, which is insanely encouraging given that was Howes area of weakness in his last job. He is clearly constantly improving and is hungry. Of course many will laugh at Staveley’s “we want him to be our Sir Alex Ferguson” comment but he’s basically the same age Ferguson was when he took over Manchester United, I’m obviously not saying he is going to be that level of manager but it shows how young he is and how much time he has to improve and grow as a coach.

The people on the outside can scream all they want that it’s purely down to money, the same way they’re all still laughing that we rate Joelinton and he’s playing CM, in time they’ll learn how wrong they are. The same people were laughing at us signing Burn and Targett a few weeks back as well.

Plus it took Ferguson almost 3½ years to do anything productive at Manchester United.

I like Howe but the signings have made a world of difference. Amazing how the midfield improves in the knowledge there's a £40m signing chomping at the bit.

We've also signed an almost entire defence, even if they haven't all been available all of the time.

I think the biggest, most effective change is that Howe fulfilled the most basic requirement of a manager- he’s made sure the team is fit.

Unlike our previous incuntbent.

He inherited eight of the players who started yesterday’s match and has improved every one of them.

He's got the signings right as well. The balance of a left footed centre half, the robbery of getting Targett on loan, who is better than Digne. Trippier traveling the length of the country to support the lads with his foot in a cast. Can't really criticise anything about the club at the minute. Class.

The competition for places has helped improve them was what I was trying to say. I'm not downplaying his input however.

Hmm, they improved before that though.

I saw shelvey run when not in possession before any signings were made.

The change is so different that I'm facing cognitive dissonance on how much hate I had for a couple of our players - and how now they are totally the opposite. I don't know whether to be even angrier as they've clearly been taking the piss.

I think severely lacking fitness and playing for a club completely devoid of ambition would absolutely knack your attitude mind. If your employer doesn't care, why would you?

Professionalism?

I contract and have lots of clients that don't care - but I'm more likely to be hired again if I do a professional job.

I think that's what annoys me, all the money and a shit attitude. (but then, who knows what goes on behind closed doors).

Like Shelvey, if he was getting dropped and had a team that doesnt care, well he should and lead by example and try and get a way out of the club - not just sit on your hands, sulk and take the money.

You’re not like them because if most of them never earned another penny they’d still be set for life. I totally get where you’re coming from and you can’t just excuse it all away by having an owner and a manager that don’t care about progress, aren’t diligent, etc. Look to Joelinton for at least having a good attitude / work ethic already. But equally if you can buy into the system and tactics of the manager, as opposed to hoping for some individual brilliance from Wilson or ASM. And if the owners have an actual plan and vision then you can understand the motivation being a lot higher. I bet Bruce could barely articulate what he wanted the players to do bar ‘go out there and win’.

Didn’t Joelinton go and get private fitness/coaching at some point under Bruce?

Wilson went back to Bournemouth for their nutritional specialist too.

Bruce’s “nutritional specialist” was probably a vending machine.

He's definitely the kind of bloke who orders both plain rice and chips.

Hey, there's nothing wrong with that ...

My ex's standard order from the Chinese was portion of chips, portion of fried rice, and a carton of curry sauce.

I had to veto that bullshit out of sheer embarrassment. Or shear embarrassment as Renton would say.
