Nah, he said he was Keegan. Simple as that. Eddie Howe is now Keegan. A young Keegan.

Fist suggested that Howe could be 'just as important' as Keegan. When no, no he can't. Keegan took the club from calamity to the very peak of the Premier League, attracting some wonderful players, playing unbelievable football, changing the whole feeling of the club. Howe has done well, but there's just no way he's be as transformative a figure as Keegan was. If Howe manages to win one solitary (proper) trophy, he'll have outdone KK. I hope he does. Granted you cannot directly compare, but if Howe is the manager to deliver the first silverware to this club since 1969, he's going to be held in equally high esteem as Keegan, if not higher. That isn't in anyway derogatory towards Keegan, or his achievements in his spell here, no-one fails to recognise the impact he had. But to say no-one can match him is arrogant and absurd when you consider he didn't deliver a trophy in that time.

Rayvin 5223
Surely only MF can say by what metric he is comparing Howe to Keegan, and therefore only MF can settle this (and he arguably did in his first post anyway). Howe could certainly become as important a figure to the club as Keegan though, he could be here for the next 20 years for all we know. Think of all the ups and downs, glories and failures, we could have in that time. That said, the same is true of any half decent manager who could join us. Whether any manager can mean as much to the fans as Keegan does given the fact that the world has simply changed since then, I don't know tbh, I reckon probably not.. but fist said "as important to the club" and I can see that being true. Keegan had to push and pull Hall to get the money to buy the players that delivered the title challenge. He was the one pushing to repaint the training ground. Howe will not be the reason for the change, the owners will. Howe will be expected to shop in the £35m window, he's not going to forcing the owners to mortgage their house to afford another player. I've not said that nobody can match Keegan, I'm saying Howe won't.

It was evidenced no clearer than his 'not like in the brochure' walkout after the Swindon game. We are talking about two completely different eras however. Keegan, as charismatic as he is, wouldn't in my opinion be able to exert the same level of influence as he could 30 years ago. So to directly compare them is unfair. Howe will have plenty of influence within his own remit. He will be reason for change because he will demand it, but in a totally different sense.

Nope, it'd take more than one unless that one was the CL maybe. Even then, no-one gets a stand whilst they are still in the job, given Howe's so young, that conceivably (if he was our SAF) could be decades away. IF he was a great success but pissed off for England, he can do one, he shouldn't get even a celebratory tablecloth if that happens. Harvey's still in the queue for a stand ahead of KK to me anyway. Because of the nature of contemporary football, Howe cannot be as influential on the club, the city as Keegan was. That's not a criticism of Howe. As an aside, neither am I convinced Howe has the ability to deliver the kind of actual success to be as transformative as Keegan was, in purely footballing terms. It's your second point I have issue with. I believe he does have the potential. Whether that potential is realised remains to be seen. I think he's a far better team manager than most people give him credit for. I emphasise the point team manager. Keegan to me was a club manager, as too were the likes of Bobby Robson and, looking beyond NUFC, Graham Taylor also. Football is totally different to the days when they were at their prime though. The structure at the club will have Dan Ashworth overseeing all footballing matters with Howe being entirely focused on the men's first team. That won't lessen the impact of what Howe will be able to deliver, it just allows him to do so without distraction from elsewhere. Even Keegan got things wrong. The disbanding of our reserve team was an ultimately shit decision and set us back years in terms of youth development.
