We had TWO keepers on the bench... erm would it not have been better to put an U21/23 lad in the matchday squad?

Aye, he then complained about how we were after the goal but what were the subs he made? Two completely like for like swaps in positions where tired legs weren’t as big of a problem. I get ASM probably needed to be taken off but he could have left Fraser on for more legs in CM surely? I’m more than happy to blame our terrible squad but at the same time the bloke is making poor choices himself.

For all Longstaff was offering, even Hendrick had to have been an improvement. Even if you just told him to come on and track their runners and just drop it off to the nearest black and white shirt when he got the ball

Agreed, Longstaff doesn’t even bother running. I get the argument that the alternatives are also poor but he’s picking the worst ones at times, unless it’s some fucking weird Mourinho type move to show the owners how desperate we are for players.

Longstaff did look excellent at times. At this point you have to question the attitude of the player. It looks like he’s taking the whole thing for granted & he’s lost his fight and desire.

He’s just coasting through & at this level that attitude gets exposed very quickly.

I don’t want to seem too critical of Howe as I know the (very valid) counter points of the job he’s facing, but I also worry he’s being too stubborn with his system. It’s fine if this is what he wants to play but it’s clear as day we don’t have the players to do it, which is why we get nothing at all from CM, it’s not been working but he still persists with it. Why not try playing Joelinton and Willock/Shelvey behind Almiron with Fraser and ASM wide and Wood upfront? Maybe it won’t work but we just keep trying this same midfield with the same results.

I just can't get away with the majority I hear, even from some decent lads. When they've an old player on they're either too young and can't properly ask the questions I'd like to hear as they weren't there and haven't a clue or they start chatting shit and interrupting and stopping the ex-pro. I heard a TF one the other day with Barton and had to turn it off as the 'great stuff' interruptions and 'back in the day' clichés got a constant airing. I'd put it on to hear Barton's view of the side at the minute but for ten minutes all I heard was what the two lads doing the podcast got for Christmas 'back in the day' and asked Barton what he got? Just fucking nar, man.  Two decent enough lads doing it and I've spoken to one of them before and he's a decent kid but I'd be absolutely fucked if I'd be paying for a patreon subscription when I couldn't bear listening for more than ten minutes free of charge. As for the others out there, including Wraith and the Brian Harvey lookalike I sometimes see on sky sports news........Fuck that.

He did one with Supermac, who is pretty clueless, and John Gibson, who I could listen to all day tbf, so I gave it a whirl.

I thought it isn’t too bad - perhaps Wraith’s reputation is a bit harsh so I gave another one ago. This time he was talking with some lass who sounds brain-dead. I turned off when they did a segment called “rate my plate” where they debated the merits of an English breakfast pizza. I won’t be rushing back.

If you can’t get into the TF one then football podcasts probably aren’t for your as that’s the best one I’ve listened to. Their analysis seems fairly sound in the main- I quite like that Norman bloke. I like that bit that Emile lad does interviewing fans outside the ground on YT too. He’s likeable.

Andrew Musgrove thing for the Chronicle isn’t too bad when they’ve for Gibbo on. Pretty poor in the main. .

The absolute worst for me is the gallowgate shots one. I can see what they’re trying to do - it’s just a bunch of mates chatting shit as far as I can tell - but it’s so poorly produced it’s impossible to listen to. Half of them are off mic so you turn it up then get deafened when the next bloke comes in at 100db. And they all end up talking over each other so you can’t hear what they’re saying anyway.

tl;dr upsum: they’re mostly shit but I’ve subscribed to almost all of them (apart from Newcastle natter, obvs) and have been listening obsessively since the takeover fever kicked in .

Agree with Gibson, liked one of Wraith's shows with just him and Bez but that's because Bez is usually good value and can talk for England so you could ignore Wraith. I've liked the odd TF in the past with Michael Martin with some of the local journalists but that's about it. The younger ones aren't for me, the very little I've seen of Gallowgate shots it's a big fucking no as it would be like watching a long Wkd advert.

Pod on the Tyne is the best one I've found, and the only one I've stuck with as a regular listener since trying heaps of them when the takeover went through.

Taylors a good host and Waugh and Caulkin in particular are very good journalists who understand whats going on in the game and the club.

They also manage to get decent guest journos in from the athletic who cover the teams we're playing to give a little insight on the opponents.
