I think Burnley's only hope of staying up is if the mid-table sides like Southampton, Villa and Wolves are mentally already on the beach against them. For a side that has won just four league games all season it's very hard to make a case that they're capable of staying up.

I guess the way I look at it is this; Everton out of the league strengthens us more comparatively than £10m in the bank. PLUS Everton fans need a season or two in the 2nd tier to realign their expectations.

Steve Barnes had suffered. Again.  He had fought hard.  Fought clean and fair, but once again his detractors - those persistently meddling fans - had hurt him. They never liked him. It was always bacon this and tactics that. They know fuck all, he consoled himself.  He was down, but not out.  He would lick his wounds, eat a few packs of Scampi Fries and take some time off to test drive a few choice motors.  Sticks and stones may break my bones, but if I'm cruising down the A1(M) at 90 with a mpg over 40 - well, those sticks won't stick in my craw, and these stones won't go unturned my friend.  These stones are not for not turning.  Steve smiled as he polished off his Steak Bake, he was beginning to feel better already.

I think they’ll be shite next season if they do stay up. And they aren’t likely to have much of a budget for improvement

This will be their third season 10th or below (12th, 10th, and wherever they end up this season), that’s with Marco Silva, Carlo Ancelotti, Rafa Benitez, and Frank Lampard as their managers in that time. I always think the quality of their squad is a bit overblown due to the price tags of them. Their defence especially is absolutely shocking. 
 

I think due to money issues they’ll probably have to sell Richarlison and/or Calvert Lewin and will probably struggle to attract a similar level replacement, given their financial issues and the direction the club has been heading. 
 

I’d like to see them down as it’d be funny, but I don’t see them as competition for us going forward.

I think they've lurched from one style to another, they've mismanaged their finances, and haven't perhaps reacted the right way to challenges from other PL teams.

 

However, if they keep Richarlison, DCL, and take advantage of the consistent flow of talent from their academy and so on. Get the right manager in and they could easily finish between 9th and 12th. An area that we will surely be targeting next season?

 

Lampard has only won 3 league games, losing the other 7. In that time they've scored 9, conceding 17. They've lost all their away games in the league and shipped an average of 3 goals in each. I don't think his job is half as safe as some of you do.

They have but I don’t really see any signs they will change that, I also don’t see them attracting an Ancelotti level manager that would paper over that and have them finish above 12th. 
 

I guess I don’t see this as a blip for them, they’ve been on a downward trajectory for a while now that was slightly slowed at times due to the level of manager they had. They now have a manager who is more in line with their level, it also hasn’t been a fluke under Lampard they weren’t miles better this season under a manager as good as Benitez. 
 

I don’t think they have much flow from their academy nowadays tbh, they only have Jonjoe Kenny, Tom Davies, and Anthony Gordon around the first team squad, Kenny is out on loan and 25, and Tom Davies is unregistered. We arguably have more with Dummett, De Bolle, Anderson, and the Longstaffs hanging around the first team squad and our academy has been massively underwhelming. 
 

It’s be quite a turnaround for them to come 9th - 12th especially if it’s going to take a really good manager coming in, keeping DCL and Richarlison, and some youth team prospects getting into the side from next season.

 

I also think 9th - 12th would be the bottom end of our target, not that I’d be angry with Howe if that’s where we finish, as we could finish there this season and as Alex pointed out if you take results since Howe arrived we’d be 8th. Clearly taking results since Howe come in is effected by opposition played in that window but we’d also likely have a much improved squad to offset that. 
 

It could happen that they suddenly turn everything around and challenge the spots we are targeting but I see it as far more likely they finish bottom half if they do manage to stay up. As like I say I really do not think their squad has much talent/quality in it, they’ve also been weakening through transfers (Myoklenko is a downgrade on Digne for example), and owe a lot of money for Dele Alli which impacts their already shit financial situation.
