Do you really think the news about Emery taking the job was from our side? It would seem really amateurish to do that unless Emery had given assurances that he was taking the job.

My own opinion is that he might have been tempted to take the job, but being a bit indecisive, has changed his mind. I read somewhere that he was described as an anxious type, and it could well be that having won the CL tie yesterday, he's had a change of heart.

I don’t think Emery did tip off the British press with the reports about him signing came from various British journalists right, left and centre.

Hopefully the appointment of proper football people to handle the press will fix that. But at the same time, I doubt we would have been tipping off the press unless Emery had given the nod to take the job. He's got a buy out clause, so if he really wanted to be here, he would be on his way. I just don't think he wanted it as much as he led us to believe.

If we end up with Eddie Howe that’s tragic tbh  Not just because I think he’s a fairly shit manager, but also because he could have been appointed day 1 and it’ll have took them a month to end up with him.

It took Celtic 5 fucking months of negotiating with Howe to realise he actually wasn't interested in the job.

I do think that Emery gave Staveley all the reason to believe he would take the job when personal terms got agreed. But as there was neither a deal agreed with Villareal nor personal terms with Emery it was rather amateurish to feed the press. It was unfair to Villareal ahead of an important fixture as well as Emery who obvious got confronted after the game and made look silly talking to another club already.

Likely due to convincing him to come and manage in the SPL, I don’t foresee it being a similar issue trying to attract him to a PL side. I could be wrong but I don’t know why else he’d have took so long faffing about over the offer from Celtic.

Its early and with the state of the club it was always going to take some time to put the right structure in place for any new ownership. Having said that, the way business has been conducted so far by PCP doesnt fill you with confidence. We need to do a shiteload of work in the transfer market soon, hopefully they will have gotten their act together by then and gotten rid of Charnley.

Aye, the length of time is the only real puzzling thing about that. The actual deal-breaker is rumoured to have been him not getting the all clear to come in with a few his own backroom staff (looking at the current setup there could be some truth to that) which shouldn't have taken 5 months to work out.

I just meant to point out he could be a pain in the arse to negotiate with and inclined to drag negotiations out to if he thinks it might secure more lucrative contracts for him and his mates.

That's all fair enough from his POV, but at the same time it also suggests he didn't want the job as much as we would have liked. I still believe he must have given some indications that he was on his way, and then changed his mind. This has all turned out rather well for him in retrospect, suddenly he's a manager wanted in England and Spain. If he'd lost yesterday, he could have been months from the sack anyway.

In any case, we should have kept quiet until it was signed and sealed, can't blame anyone except ourselves for that. Hopefully lessons learned for next time.

and me, beyond any shadow of a doubt.

the euphoria of ashley finally fucking off is fading at an alarming rate and neither martinez or howe are gonna reignite it.

Can you imagine a world where Keegan would ever think of himself as caretaker manager?

He'd be plotting winning the CL within 3 years with Mbappe and Griezmann leading the line.

To be honest, I don’t think he would touch the permanent job these days. I get the feeling the experience under Ashley killed off his enthusiasm. I know what you mean but I kind of think he might be tempted to take over until the end of the season purely because it’s us. I hasten to add that I have no expectations of this actually happening. Ewerk was right about him being perfect for selling the club to potential candidates though. Imagine Charnley? He couldn’t even negotiate a good salary for himself, knows he’s on borrowed time and had only survived so long because he’s a yes man.

At this point I think Staveley might be seriously considering waiting to see if Everton get a thumping off Spurs at the weekend, and then see if there's any movement from the Everton hierarchy in terms of getting shot of Rafa. I think it would be a very shortsighted move from Everton given the injuries they currently have to crucial players, but the pressure from losing, what 4, 5 on the bounce, may prove too much. And obviously the Everton fans didn't want him there in the first place, so their patience is going to be much thinner than usual in any case. Most likely wishful thinking on my part of course.
