We gained at least 2 points on every team from 13th place down in this round of fixtures. The only exceptions were Watford, Everton and Brentford, who we gained 3 on.

Pretty much as good as it could have got.

As has been said Konsa is out for Villa, but apparently Buendia and Coutinho both had to come off with injuries, and are subsequently doubts for Sunday.

Think I might owe Sir Bob some money already, did I say 6 goal contributions for Coutinho?

He is still shit

Lush goal and two assist this evening. Watching motd now and he looks like he’s still got it

Just looking at Brentford. They've lost their last 5 in a row, conceding 16 goals in the process.

They could definitely be another team dropping into the brown keg zone before too long.

Yep, looking at the table there’s definitely 7 teams now trying to avoid the drop and our next 4 games could produce a lot of points if we play like we did on Tuesday.

We’ve got two games in hand on them and one on Norwich. It’s a great chance to pull away a bit.

Some thoughts, in no particular order.

  • Winning against Everton could be pivotal for us, not just because of the other results but huge for soft victories like momentum, positivity, confidence etc. especially as we came from behind to win comfortably.
  • The other teams failing to win is massive. It not only gets us out of bottom 3, but reminds the players that the other teams around us are poor.
  • Norwich dropping 2pts rather than snatching 1 is demoralising.
  • I was going to say that Everton are definitely in the mix and Brentford should be ok, but I didn’t realise most of the teams below have 2+ games on the Bees. That 6pt cushion isn’t so fluffy. I'd go so far as to say Leeds are safer than Brentford too.
  • Hodgson is good at drilling a team and would surely improve a squad over time, but a) Watford are a mercenary squad-not really the grind it out kind of squad and b) it may be too little too late regardless.
  • As with Norwich, Villa crumbling like that will be demoralising. It’s a shame Targett won’t be available against his parent club

tl;dr

Anyone from Palace down are at risk IMO.  I'm fairly certain those in bottom 3 now will drop out of the league, but I suspect Brentford and Everton won't survive by much. Leeds, Palace and ourselves should have enough quality to get out of it.

The biggest bonus this week for me was, as you allude to, how the other results went. Couldn't have fallen better for us if we'd scripted it.
