Scottish Mag 3
JEAN Alain Boumsong is determined not to let Newcastle's FA Cup run get in the way of the recent revival in the Premiership. The Magpies booked their place in the last eight thanks to a 1-0 win over Southampton at St. James' Park on Saturday, which came courtesy of Kieron Dyer's 68th minute strike. Newcastle will discover their quarter final opponents on Monday afternoon when the draw is made at the FA's headquarters in Soho Square, and while Boumsong is looking forward to learning who the Magpies will face, he insists the immediate concern is beating Charlton in Wednesday's rearranged game at Gallowgate. He told nufc.co.uk: "It was a good win for us at the weekend against Southampton. "It was tough, but we worked hard and we were delighted to get the goal and win the game. "I know all about how important the FA Cup is to this club, it is our only chance of winning something this season and after getting to the semi final last season, we must aim to reach the final and go on and win it now. "But before our next game in the cup - whoever it is against - we have to concentrate on winning our league games now. "We have three important matches coming up at home in the next week or so, starting with Charlton on Wednesday. "We have improved in the last three games, and we have taken six points from the last two league matches so we want to keep that going. "We will look forward to the cup game when it comes around, but now we must look at the league and concentrate on building on the wins we had against Portsmouth and Aston Villa." The French international added: "There has been a big improvement, the biggest thing is that we are winning matches now. "We are playing with confidence, we look strong and we are scoring goals. We are looking forward to the matches, because we know there is a long way to go this season. "We do not need to be told that the form in the league has not been good enough, but the season is not finished yet. "We are still in the cup, there are plenty of points to play for so we could still have a good finish."
