TheInspiration 1
So if Bramble did not make that minor error (which lead to the goal), would that have been enough to earn him a 10?
Meenzer 15719
Good result like, especially considering Laurel and Hardy, aka Bramble and (in particular) Boumsong were up to their old tricks. 93454 Boumsong appears to be in Garth Crooks' "team of the week" on the BBC website... Guest alex
Good result like, especially considering Laurel and Hardy, aka Bramble and (in particular) Boumsong were up to their old tricks. 93454 Got an 8 and a 9 in NO match ratings.. Jean-Alain Boumsong - 8 Boum is back. He was a key element of the magnificent 2nd half defensive display which ensured we held on to all 3 points, throwing himself at just about everything and he was solid in the air too. He seems to have regained his confidence and his performances are improving as a result. Also should have scored with a 1st half header which somehow bounced over. Titus Bramble - 9 The other half of the B Team at the back for United, Bramble was just as good as his partner. While he allowed Moore to get in front of him for the Villa goal, it was quick movement from the striker and only a minor error. Other than that his display was just about faultless as he won every ball, and could even have had a goal himself as he charged forward early in the 2nd half. 93496 The result papers over the cracks. I thought Boumsong was rubbish. His attempted 'challenges' were poor and he was totally to blame for the pen which, if they'd scored would probably have cost us all 3 points. Plus, the amount of times he turns his back when challenging is a disgrace. As for Bramble he was completely to blame for their goal, making a rash tackle to give away the free-kick and making a poor challenge for the resulting goal. On top of that, the amount of times Villa got free-headers and found space in the box was scary, even given the fact we were a man down. Ramage was the pick of the back four again and Elliott played a blinder when he came on (honest!).

That said, we deserved something out of the game for the football we palyed first half and the effort in the 2nd. Edit: Shay was Man of the Match though (penalty save apart), so that tells it's own story. Edited February 13, 2006 by alex
Scottish Mag 3
Ramage was the pick of the back four again 93504 Were you and Mosley watching the same game? He got the worst rating over there with a 6 whilst everyone else except Babayaro got an 8 or a 9...
sweetleftpeg 0
Ramage is excellent in the air like. When Carr comes back I'd drop one of the two Ronnies and stick Ramage centre half personally.
TheInspiration 1
It is no surprise for Newcastle fans when assessing the defence to say a decent performance was one that was without any of the typical laughable mistakes the defence tends to make. Fact has it, they shouldn't be making them anyway, and we should really look at how well they defended...
