Craig 6730
from .COM... Press release from the League Manager's Association, Monday: 06 Feb 2006 FA PREMIER LEAGUE RULE 0.7 The appointment of Glenn Roeder as caretaker manager at Newcastle United and his assistant Alan Shearer has highlighted once again the FA Premier League’s Rule O.7, which limits the length of time that a caretaker manager can remain in place, if he does not hold the relevant qualifications. It effectively enforces a deadline of 27 April 2006* to name a successor to Graeme Souness. Frank Clark, the former Newcastle defender and League Managers Association Vice-Chairman explains. "Neither Glenn nor Alan have their Pro Licence qualification. It means Newcastle can carry on with a temporary arrangement for 12 weeks to get them through to a full-time appointment. After that they would be in breach of Premier League Rules." As this Rule has been tightened up twice in recent seasons, following the illness to Gerard Houllier and the appointment of Steve Wigley at Southampton, it would appear most unlikely that the Premier League would be prepared to approve any extension. *Our current fixture list runs on for two games after that date - an away match at Birmingham two days later and a home game against Chelsea the following weekend. Were we also to be participating in the FA Cup final on May 13th (I know, I know) then that two would become three. Nothing that we didn't know before but nice to see the official (and frankly ridiculous) line....
