Went with LG OLED.
Pretty amazing colours and contrast so far

S'okay ... and it'll do a good job until you try to move it and break this one as well. :D

As for the 'amazing colours / contrast' the test videos they demonstrate are never representative of what is actually ever broadcast. It's a bit like looking round a show house which has 75% sized furniture to make the rooms look bigger or the fast food chains who use cosmetic props to demonstrate their perfect looking burger - as brilliantly demonstrated by Michael Douglas in Falling Down

Why did CT delete the post about his new TV? Have HMRC finally caught up with him and he's cleaning house?

I think it was the other week when I was trying to post and it said I had posted too many images, so had to delete some previous ones. It’s still here looking sexy and now accompanied by some Ikea greenery

Looks like Mrs. CT’s boyfriend has left evidence of his last visit on the footstool.

How does your mind work? 🙂

  • 1 month later...

Got a wall mounted Samsung Frame TV finally. The fitting and the frame were both free (the latter on order) and a fair bit of cashback. When in art mode the TV is indistinguishable from an oil painting canvas like, I can see myself getting another of these if I can get a decent offer again.

All I have to do is tidy up the single input and power cord, which is clear anyway.

How does the single input cable work there? Is there an external unit for plugging stuff into?

Yeah, its a 5 metre clear optical cable, with power, that feeds into a box with all the usual inputs kept out the way.

The TV quality is fine for my needs like, but you can definitely get better pictures in the the same price range. It's still 4k and as there is no glare its better suited to a bright room. Not that most people even need 4k unless they live in a mansion with a 65 inch TV (this one is 43 inch, perfect for the room size imo). Most modern TVs have resolutions above what the human eye can distinguish.

I spent far too much time around black Friday researching TVs and the difference between mini-led, qled, oled, woled etc. etc. to finally come to the conclusion that I'm never actually going to watch anything that would fully utilise the capabilities of these TVs. Still ended up spending more than I needed to mind.

I bought a couple of oil paintings in the Black Friday sales. They look exactly like oil paintings and no cables coming out the back.

Yeah, and do those oil painting change to over 3000 different ones and can you watch telly on them?

It's nice to have a room without an obvious TV in it, and I can now put my work desk where the TV used to be so finally have a study.

No I watch telly on my telly. And I have lots of rooms without obvious TVs on the wall, they're the ones I don't watch TV in.

Also, if you've hung your telly high enough on the wall to be mistaken for an oil painting you've hung your telly too high on the wall.

This is EXACTLY the kind of shit you would give me if roles were reversed, so SUCK IT.

There's 4 of us. Having two TVs is hardly over the top. This is the secondary one, perfectly comfortable to view from where the sofa is, and now I have a space for a desk. No TVs elsewhere in the house, although tbh I much would rather the kids watched TV in their room or played games than the social media shit they get up to.
