a new telly every four years? You must have done serious damage to the old one with all the burnt-in porn images

Nah, Oled’s are the main technology going forward, but have had a lot of problems with burn in, particularly when I was choosing last time. They still have problems to a lesser degree (apparently), but I was just looking for any real life views on the issue.

Very disappointed that you of all people are not upto speed on this sort of stuff. :(

Jesus CT, WTF are you doing to your telly if you're needing to replace it after 4 years?!

Mine's 11 years old and still going strong.

@Christmas Tree I've got an LG OLED 48 incher. No issues with burn-in. If you're not watching it for a short period, the screen goes black anyway with a white text screen saver thing.

So you'd have to really try to get an image burnt in to it.

If you want specific model, let me know. It's class like. It's the 2021 version so might have a slightly different name now.

Cheers, one of the ones I’m looking at is the LG C4 so cheers.

I always thought Oled TV’s were very dark when I shopped around 4 years ago, but big bright showrooms are not good places to judge them.

I understand sport is fantastic on them.

Aye mine is absolutely spot on, whatever I watch on it. There are so many different picture profiles to pick from (and obvs you can create your own) though, some of which are dark, but I just don't use those ones. I'm not using ones that are super garish and bright either - you can basically set it however you want, from eyeball meltingly bright to barely see what's going on dark.

Just pick one of the standard profiles though, and you'll be fine.

Honestly? I don't watch enough TV to justify whatever the outlay is these days. My telly works. The day it doesn't, I'll replace it. I'm also careful when I move mine

I've still not got round to buying my "Lifestyle" TV cos 1) I can't be arsed and 2) the current TV is fine so I can't really justify the cost. The current TV is a Samsung LED from 2008 I think, the picture quality is superb still but it's not a smart TV and I want the space for a desk so need a wall mounted one. A soon as can be bothered I'll replace it though.

I remember the old days when TVs used to go on the blink so much there was a genuine industry in "TV repair men". Now they seem to last forever. I still don't get how when I walk through John Lewis, Currys or Fenwicks the TVs all look bettter resolution than my actual eyesight.

i get that. some of them are like looking into a different world. it's almost too vivid. the tech is amazing. ours is from about a decade ago and i was blown away by the 4k resolution at the time. it's still absolutely fine but it seems pretty drab compared to the latest tech. it's also started making a weird hum which is a bit annoying  - but not too annoying yet that i'm ready to blow north of a grand on a replacement

Smart TVs are a waste of time. They give up with the updates eventually and they become clunky AF. They also do nothing a sky box or fire stick can't do these days

I was hoping that might not be the case now, but anyway, aren't all tellys "smart" now? My TVs work through a jumbled mess of a BT box, smart TV with about two usable apps, and a slow as fuck firestick.

Fucking Radio Rentals man, because they were that unreliable / costly to repair, it was cheaper to rent one instead. Nearly all of them would be encased in a wood veneer box which weighed a tonne and ever single one of them was a fire risk - yet still our Mams sat us in front of them and left us to it.

One of ours DID catch fire - smoke coming out of the back of it as the had exploded. My mam didn't believe my brother until she smelled it from the kitchen.

Happy days!

Yeah, we had ours rented from Rumbelows in Shields, guess the repairs were covered. Several times a year the telly would break down prompting a bloke to arrive in denim dungarees with a tray full of diodes. Or maybe my parents were swingers, I dunno.

No fucking remote either. Thinking about it the remote becoming a thing coincided with TVs becoming more reliable and the death of places like Rumbelows and RR.

I remember the first video recorder we had. It had a "remote", which was actually a controller on a wire which plugged into the recorder.  Said wire didn't reach even half way across the room.  :)

Just been in Curry’s to look at an OLED next to a LED tv.

Fuck innggg hell

Absolute chalk and cheese in there. The LED was a very high spec one as well.

Very impressed.

Whenever I'm doing owt like this, I sign up for the free trial at Which and pick one of their Best Buys. Might be worth a look on there if you haven't already.

Im a bit more detailed, I use the geeks on www.Rtings.com  which is incredible for testing results etc and you can compare specs and test results side by side. It’s the best TV review site in the world. Their YouTube site is very good as well, particularly as the geeks (who all seem way off the scale), present it.

I also then use AVForums where people who are really into their electronic stuff will answer any questions. They also have owner threads for each model where you can get a lot of info from real world use.

I probably will because they probably just copy and paste rtings. But rtings is free and I’m not paying which.

Its probs going to be the LG C4 or B4.

Absolutely stunning they were.

By any chance was the most expensive one the best picture ?? I'm sure it's perfectly fine and Curry's wouldn't mess with the settings.
