The Entirely Reasonable Potential Transfers Thread

This Carlos sounds a bit like a Titus Bramble tribute act.

Given all the mistakes he makes at a team near the top of the league (where his team is doing more attacking than defending), what’s he going to be like when we go one nil up and then immediately switch to our Battle of the Alamo plan B?

It is funny that the same people saying we need to go down our list to find more realistic targets are now complaining that those players are underwhelming. It's like they're only happy when they're FUCKING MISERABLE!!

I still maintain that they’ll get players in the positions we need, I just can’t imagine they’ll all be the first choice

Agreed, I think even if they do want to keep trying to sign Carlos they should look to bring in another CB that was further down their list just to make sure we get one that improves us since we honestly need 2 anyway.

Really hope we can get Lingard in, I think he’s a good improvement on Fraser. Maybe he could drop into CM as others said too, either way he improves us.

Could Carlos really be all that mistake prone given they have the best defence in the Spanish league. They've only conceded 14 goals in 21 games. If Carlos is dropping a bollock so often surely it would be worse. I know some have posted some stats, so perhaps I'm wrong, but maybe his propensity to make mistakes is being played up a bit. I seen Giueme Ballbag say that he's great in aerial duels, and when you see the state of Lascelles trying to defend crosses into the box, I'd take the odd mistake for a vast improvement over that. Getting the right centre back partner for him will be key, if we ever get him, as is the case with most centre back partnerships, you get two players who make up for any deficiencies in each others game.

Where's that happening like?

Yes, hopefully you’re right as what you’re saying makes sense in terms of how few goals Sevilla have conceded.

As you say, he has to be an improvement on Lascelles, Clark, and Schar as none of those would get anywhere near Sevilla’s first XI.

Reports in Italy that Atalanta are lining up an Austrian striker as presumably a Zapata replacement. So hopefully if that's true it's looking like Atalanta are getting their house in order so they can sell Zapata to us.

He’s been sort of pushing for a move for a while now. Tbh I’d be happy if we offloaded him in the summer, he’s not good enough for the PL. He’s not good enough technically to make up for being so lightweight. At this point it’ll be worth it alone so I stop seeing fans of his stupid old MLS club bemoaning how this unbelievable talent is being wasted at a shit club, he’s part of the reason we are shit lads.

Almiron's agent is the Comical Ali of the football agent world.

Looked to have some potential at one point. His combo of pace and engine would’ve been an asset to the current side before Bruce got hold of him you’d have thought

Aye

He looked promising, but despite his hard graft he offers very little. Plus the rolling on the floor every 5 minutes is annoying as fuck,

the difference is they can afford to wait until the final days to get the best price possible. we really are desperate and these selling clubs know it. in normal times, i'd say it's a good thing that the club try to pay as close to fair market value as possible. if, as looks increasingly likely, we fail to get anyone in for the leeds game, i can see us doing most of our business in the final days/hours of the window as we don't play again after leeds till feb 8th.

Its been a while since I've really paid attention to the transfer window (for obvious reasons - my club had nothing to do with it) but you can classify transfers into two broad categories in January.

1. First team players

2. Squad players or players club is looking to sell e.g. contract running out (Vlahovic), fall out with management (Aubamayang) etc

The main difference is, in category 1. the selling club will not have a suitable back up and will have to buy a replacement. Given the short window this is hard, come deadline day this would be nigh impossible. Category 2, the club could already cope with the loss. We have been trying to buy players exclusively from category 1 so far because we know these players won't be available deadline day without astronomical offers.

Take Seville, they have 3 specialist center backs (Carlos, Kounde and Rekik) and Kounde is currently injured. They are unlikely to sell Carlos without a suitable replacement lined up which would not be possible on deadline day. If they buy a new CB before then it might hint at a deal. This is the case for any player in category 1. The only exception is if an astronomical bid is submitted e.g. 2x the market rate or paying a release clause.

Given all this, come deadline day, I think its more realistic to expect players from category 2. This isn't necessary bad, they include players like Lingard, Ramsey and highly rated ones like Zakaria, Kamara and even a few worldies like Dembele (don't want, very injury prone), Sule and Tolliso.

Anyways, lets just hope we can get a few more players in and hope the team can start getting some results.

tldr: We need to get category 1 players [well] before deadline day otherwise we'll be looking at category 2. And this is why I believe we haven't used our loan deals or got the bargain players yet, they'll still be available come deadline day whilst category 1 players won't.
