Ekitike is apparently impressed by by our proposed "project" and open for a move but Reims want £25m and we're only willing to pay £20m.  Daily Mail snippet so take that for what it's worth.

Would love Ekitike think he has great potential for the future but he would need to strengthen up significantly for the Prem.

Well I think you have to consider the willingness of each party to do a deal. That increases as the window closes. Few teams, if any, are in a particular rush to sell in January. That number decreases when they're selling an important player, and decreases further when they're selling to a league rival.

The Wood deal looks to have completed fairly quickly because of the release clause. I'm sure, if that didn't exist Burnley would either not sell, or would drag it out for as long as possible, and whack a few extra millions onto the price.

Re: operating on multiple deals. Honestly? I'm not sure. If the contract needs to be looked over by an expert, how many of those have we got on staff? Plus, you have several personalities to deal with. The moneymen, the manager, the scouts, the player, their agent, their club's money men, manager, etc. That mess becomes exponentially messier when you have multiple deals on the go, surely?

Especially when we don't have a technical director, this is the first window for our owners, there are 3 ownership parties, we're in the relegation zone and thus desperate.

Absolutely, both parties have to be willing to negotiate and without one side taking the piss and as you say towards the end of the window if a player wants to go somewhere else it usually gets forced through by hook or crook. My only gripe being that our situation/desperation + the amount of cash we in theory have to play with it should be enough to get a deal done with both sides being happy without it dragging on towards Jan 31st.

As we have seen now with the Wood deal it was possible after all, you'd have a good point about the release clause however it was reported last night that the Burnley chairman actually accepted our offer rather than us triggering the clause. Perhaps Wood himself said he wanted to be on his way likely since this might be his last chance at his age for a big contract.. plus maybe his team feels that we are a better chance of staying up than Burnley.

Thats fair, two deals at once should mean it will take twice as long to get pen to paper generally. It doesnt feel like most of our offers are even getting that far though, Trippier was done right fair enough but the owners have had months to streamline this process knowing the situation we were heading into this month and seemingly they havnt done a great job yet. I was concerned when we took so long to appoint a manager and dof and I think these growing pains are probably also spilling over the to transfer side of things to. I appreciate the owners are new to this and im personally very happy with Wood and Trippier.. just feels like we really are struggling to get business done in decent time.

We've signed two PL quality players in the first 12 days of the window. We don't have a DoF/Tech Dir. Our first choice striker only pulled up recently and so any strategy would have to be changed to accommodate the recruitment of an immediate solution.

You say you're happy with Wood and Trippier, but want more deals completed already? You don't think that's a little a) naïve, 2) spoiled?

So far, in the Premier League,

  • Arsenal - 0
  • Aston Villa - 0
  • Brentford - 0
  • Brighton - One 18yr old for £10m
  • Burnley - 0
  • Chelsea -0
  • Crystal Palace - 0
  • Everton - 2 fullbacks for a combined fee of around £35m
  • Leeds - 0
  • Leicester - 0
  • Liverpool - 0
  • Man City - 0
  • Man Utd - 0
  • Newcastle - 0 signed 2 first team players for a combined fee of around £35m.
  • Norwich - 0
  • Southampton - 0
  • Tottenham - 0
  • Watford - 5 players for a combined fee of £15m
  • West Ham - 0
  • Wolves - 0

So, in actuality we account for 37% of the transfer spend, so far. And we're not done yet.

Thing is, Wood and Trrippier answer two immediate problems for our team. We lacked strength in depth up front and we lacked quality at fullback/quality in delivery.

We've already solved two issues with 2/3rds of the window left to go. If we keep up this pace we could bring in another 4 players to resolve the issues at CB, CM and LB.

Good post.If you’d said 2 CB’s and 2 CM’s it would have been an excellent post.👍

You will have to remind me so I don’t go full deano

He was giving it the billy big bollocks about how much he earned then left the forum in the huff when someone pointed out he’d made a bet (and subsequently lost). He’d promised £50 to the SBR Foundation. His exit was full on scattergun “you’re all cunts” basically

Carlos sounds like my kind of guy. I'm bang up for overhead kicks in our own box. Our clearances have been sadly lacking that level of flair for some time. And yeah, the odd one is gonna end up creating a chance for the opposition. That's the nature of overhead kicks, they're not inherently accurate. But by god, they're fun.

Well we need someone to give away the penalties.

He's probably just a Brazilian Steven Taylor in fairness. If Steven's name had of been Stephan Talorino he'd have more respect on his name 😟

Can you show me the other club on this list that have just been taken over by the richest owners in the world? And are in a dire situation without a fit striker, the worst defence in the league and have stated ambition to win trophies not to far down the road? Comparing us with anyone else on there is apples and oranges mate. Dont get me wrong I was pissing the bed yesterday before the Wood news and Wood is a long way to a good window but its not looking like we will get a CB before Watford, thats half the window gone by the time we play them.

Maybe I am being a spoiled naive twat here, but with all the noise around the club before the window opened I guess having 3 players in before the biggest game of our season and half way through the window was to much to expect.
