The Entirely Reasonable Potential Transfers Thread

I think it’s fairly obvious Clark will be on his way sooner rather than later. Lascelles can follow him for me.

At the end of this season, assuming we stay up, there’s a lot of absolute shite to get rid of. Players that Ashley’s regime should have had replaced a long time ago.

Honestly, I don't know. It was just the fact that we've been trying to sign a centre back all window, and the day before the window slams shut, it looks like we've finally got one, and your reaction read like a big long sigh. ;)

it means clark and (hopefully) lascelles are further away from the starting 11 and that is a good thing as far as i'm concerned. he's a welcome addition. it's just a bit of a reality check after being linked with botman and a demonstration of how hard it is to get your first choice signings in during january, particularly when you're in a relegation scrap

The thing is, from a relegation battle pov, Burn might be a better bet than Carlos. Who knows how well he would have adjusted to the PL. He might have been fine but he would have arrived with more question marks about immediately adapting than Burn does.

clark, lascelles, hendrick, krafth, hayden, longstaff, ritchie, almiron, shelvey for starters

agree, i also wasn't convinced carlos was worth the money after what our main man diego had to say about him.

botman would have been great given how highly-rated he is but also been a gamble to the extent that he doesn't know the league and we don't have time for players to adapt to the pace of the english game during a relegation battle.

The other thing about Burn and Wood is that the squad didn’t just need strengthening, it needed a complete rebuild. Experience proven (if a bit underwhelming) signings like this are a crucial part of that. Also, Gemmill points out we’re battling for survival and sometimes players like that are better for the position we’re in. We haven’t got time to bed people in really. I don’t think you can assume our business is done yet either though

De Ligt was supposed to be the best young defender in world football and he was awful when he first went to Juve. Botman would be a great signing, but I wouldn't like to bet avoiding relegation on him. Conor Coady would be a canny partner for Burn mind ;)

Burn is better than he’s given credit for, he’s not a Botman level player/prospect but he will hit the ground running and he’s a dependable mid table PL player. He’s of a higher standard than Wood imo, who I also liked us bringing in btw.

Burn for £13m sounds absolutely fine to me. He knows the league, is better than anything we've got, and would come down to the champ with us if worst came to worst.

I mean if we go down after this window we're going to kick seven shades out of the championship at this rate.

Brighton fans seem to have taken this transfer & our other alleged “interest” in their players quite personally which is ideal because I can’t fucking stand them.

Aye fuck them. It’s good to see they’re upset by this as it means we’ve got a decent player. How many years did we buy a player to the rejoice of the selling clubs fan base

They’re one of those clubs where you can almost guarantee that at least 40% of their fans support another team.

Pop up mecano ground, half & half scarf wankers.

The comfort with which the fans settled into the top flight and being decent is annoying given their complete lack of history.

 I fully agree. The championship seasons were funny in that it opened me up to a lot more clubs to dislike, Brighton, Huddersfield, and Nottingham Forest being the main culprits.

Van de Beek off to Everton. Makes sense that Everton got him given they are neither anywhere close to Man U in the table, nor are they seen as potential rivals in the years to come.

I quite like Huddersfield but I think that’s because I lived with a lad at Uni and I’d go to the Huddersfield games with him occasionally because it was £5 in & not far from York.

Sometimes I’ll go visit him over the Christmas break and we’ll see a game. It’s a weird way to watch football. Nice in a way because Im completely indifferent to the events on the pitch.

Brought him to a few Newcastle games & it was a different world for him at the time

Forest are tier 3 hatred for me due to lying down for the manc cunts in 96 and taking gd out of the equation then Ian fucking Woan and celebrating that goal like theyd won the European Cup again. Fucking scabs.
