The Entirely Reasonable Potential Transfers Thread

Aye but if we bring in another few before the window closes, we really should be able to gradually pull away from the mess at the bottom. Upgrading half the first team would have to translate into points on the board.

Especially if we get someone like Zapata who looks an absolute monster (not racist). Plus Wilson will be back for the final charge to the line.

The Sevilla sporting director has basically said that they're likely to accept the bid we made in the summer, but not now. I suppose it's understandable given they aren't far off the top of the league at the minute. I can't see us bringing in a big money centre back now, we'll perhaps get a Burn, Philips or both who could then become part of the squad should we go back in for our first choices of Botman and Carlos in the summer.

What gives you confidence of getting a few in before the window closes?  Does someone just speed up the music to get them moving quicker?

It happens every year.

I honestly see this as him posturing. I could be reading too much into it but having an interview with a foreign news outlet about a player you rejected a bid for is a bit weird to start with, Monchi knows there’s no chance we come in with a bid anywhere close in the summer as we have way more time and options by then (the situation could also be different given the league we are in too of course). I almost see it as him trying to steer the story back to Carlos after the Guimeraes and Burn deals have took attention away, after that I can see them coming back to us before the end of the window to see if we would do a deal tbh.

This is different to the Botman deal in that Botman could potentially go for more in summer whereas this is the peak of Carlos’ price given all the circumstances. Of course they could simply want to hold on to him for a title push but it’s weird they spent 3 weeks entertaining bids if that’s the case.

If we stay up I can see us going for other defenders for sure.

Yeah maybe it is just another stage of negotiation in his mind, but I'd rather we didn't blink first. There are other players we can get who will improve our defence enough for us to stay up. Even getting Guimaraes, knock on wood it's completed, will take a lot of pressure off our backline.

Aye, I think if we stay up we are more interested in younger players on the up. I was reading somewhere last night that we are after a 21 year old striker at Marseilles and basically told his agent we want to sign him but have more pressing needs right now, if we get our primary targets we can try for him at the end of the window or wait until summer. If that’s true I think players like Carlos/Zapata etc will not be the targets they want, they also likely know this themselves and know it’s a chance to have a big contract late in their career so it’s mutually beneficial in the current situation.

Agree, that’s why I really like the move for Burn. It is giving us at least some leverage to show we don’t absolutely need Carlos so stop pissing us around over the price and do a deal or dont.

Makes you wonder whether it was a bit of a knee jerk decision after the Wilson injury and with the Watford match looming...

Awwww ruffling some feathers are we? We literally are bullying clubs to sell btw, has he not realized this? Why does he think we are walking around agreeing all these personal terms, unsettling players and then coming in to bid? Can he tell Monchi to stop publicly flirting about a bid if Carlos is so out of our league then.

If Bruno is as good as they say, i honestly think that could be enough, along with another centre half. You just have to look at how the signing of Cabaye took the team from mid-table nowt to punching around Europe. When he wasn’t in the huff anyway. Demba Ba helped as well, like but my point still stands. Someone to help us retain possession for longer than 20 seconds would be a luxury

what bout this nat phlilips we keep being linked to? know someone who supports liverpool down here who was saying he's the next baresi but the consensus elsewhere seems to be he's shit so dunno if he's yanking my chain or not. 40 odd appearances at 24 years of age tells its own story

How is putting an offer in what we think is reasonable bullying?

Somebody on twitter said Bruno could nutmeg a mermaid & whilst there’s no way of confirming that, that will do for me.

Bin dippers would big up Clark if he played for them.

They signed that Ben Davies from Preston and the media were wanking off like mad. Saying what a great business man Klopp is and how he can spot talent.  He's that fucking good he's currently on loan at Sheff Utd and still not made a PL appearance for Liverpool.

He's a 29 year old CB playing regularly for a top half team that have let in 20 goals fewer than us this season. I've got no issues if they have to pay £15m for him, even if it is over the odds.

This entirely.

I think Bruno is a very good player. My only doubt is if he is capable of changing the team in just 4 months from today.

I mean, I know that in the long run he's going to be a top player, but I don't know if he's going to need some adaptation time that we don't have.

It took him many months to change from Brazil to France and the Premier League is an even more physical League.

I think Phillips is a cult hero down there more than anything else

It kind of reminds me of how Dummett is viewed in our support base, in that he’s solid enough and a canny lad so he is well regarded but is really limited.
