Thinking there’s a strong correlation between those perfectly willing to crash the economy for a set of dubious nationalistic principles and those now shouting loudly WE CANT CRASH THE ECONOMY TO SAVE LIVES..

Was out in the garden earlier and listening to the wireless.

They had Carlton Palmer on.  He now lives and works in China.  Fuck me, he didn't paint a very nice picture at all.  He recons Covid started in early November and the measures they took were very strict.  He said he got a plane home (to the UK) in December and he was shocked at the lack of testing here.  He went back to China and straight away people were on the plane testing, then they had to stay in a hotel over night.  Then went back home and they have to send their temperatures in twice a day via an app.  They have things on there doors and you're only allowed out 3 times a day and thats for groceries, put the rubbish out or for medical reasons.  Fuck me.

They asked him when we could finish the season here.  He said November.

I think next league season should be cancelled. Use the time to finish this season properly, new cup competitions conditions permitting, and reschedule Euro 2020 earlier in the year.

TBH Football is the last thing on my mind.

Levy gets a fucking £3m bonus for the football stadium being on time (despite it not) then they furlough their none playing staff but the players are still spunking massive wages.

Get to fuck.

Just off a meeting with some Texans and some continentals, Texans ask what it's like over here, we Euro folks explain lockdown etc. and they say "Geez it's not as bad as that here" We euro's all think to ourselves you shouldn't call it "bad" you should call it "good" - and the Texans in question were VERY senior/executive type folks !!! . US is going to get creamed by this thing.

i feel really sorry for people who live alone like. my family are driving me crazy, but i don't know if being stuck with just my own company would be worse.

Aye. I fucking love being in the house by myself and hate socialising but I think it would be very tough to do this solo. If you're some gregarious extrovert arse piece, there's just no way.

is optimistic monday renton going back in his box for a bit?

My optimism was based on the published numbers. Seems very likely they weren't accurate or were manipulated. We're back on the trajectory I had originally feared. And at the risk of being accused as point scoring (I'm most certainly not), i am fucking furious the government didn't lock down sooner on this.

I'm also still fucking angry I am being dragged in every fucking day to none essential paper work, increasing my and my family's risk, and ultimately everybody's risk. This, whilst working for supposedly the best NHS trust in the country. It's just not right.

I don't think the numbers looked wonky the other day, they were just always gonna skyrocket this week and next. We are only 8 days into the lockdown, there are still people that caught this pre lockdown, that are gonna die, that aren't even feeling ill yet.

yes - talk about mixed messages from the government there.

the pubs are shutting - but we're leaving them open for one last night, so get out on the hoy and infect as many people as you can while you're still allowed to, everyone

After this is over there needs to be a full inquest into this. Cheltenham, Liverpool game, and the Friday night pubs. People should be prosecuted, including the PM, possibly.

cheltenham, man - what a piss take that was. 70k people a day when most of europe was locked down already. that was back when herd immunity was still their strategy

A friend's brother went to Cheltenham and is just emerging from the worst of the virus after 16 extremely unpleasant days. Absolute madness that it went ahead when we all knew what it would mean by then.

This might be BBC propaganda but is quite reassuring, probably worth a read.

BBC News - Coronavirus: How to understand the death toll

It’s correct on the way that it’s difficult to judge in a lot of circumstances if a death is caused by corona or not. As long as you are not in a hospital and receiving live saving treatment that are not successful it’s quite difficult to establish the cause of death. In many cases it would need intensive post mortems which are quite often not done. Just testing dead bodies if they were infected won’t give you the full picture.
