I’m seeing a lot of pubs/venues and people pretty much stating they’re going to ignore it.

The stuff about only going out to a pub in a family group is only advisory anyway, just to confuse things further. Rule of 6 is mandatory. So of course the former will be ignored.

Imagine being a student coming to Newcastle Uni this year. Paying 9 grand and massive living expenses and not being allowed to socialise. Then lectures are online anyway because of the risk to lecturers. Fuck that. It'll be ignored and covid is bound to increase.

I think it pretty much encourages young uns to socialise in people’s homes anyway. Because they would normally be out until 1 or whatever in the town on a Friday or Saturday night. I know that breaks the rules, obviously, but what do they think pissed kids are going to do at 10 when the pubs shut? And the government know people won’t stick to the rules anyway. If you’re 20 and live with your mam and dad, you can’t meet mates for a drink down the pub but you can go to the pub, ditto couples not being able to meet anyone. Or 4 students in one household only being able to go out and drink with each other. It’s completely unrealistic to expect certain groups to stick to the rules. About as realistic as it is that all the infection increases are in households meeting, rather than public transport, schools, pubs, restaurants or the workplace

Exactly, not happening. Also, at the risk of going a bit tinfoil hat, are we really to believe the rate is much lower in London than places like up here and the north west

London is supposed to be 2 weeks behind the North, no idea why this should be though. Of course, the truth is we have no fucking idea what the true rate is here because test and trace has collapsed, that's the reason the councils pressed for the regional lockdown. It's probably 5 times higher than the official stats show.

Aye, completely unforeseeable.

Along with all the other things I detest this government for, cronyism is going to wreck this country. Johnson and Cummings have purged their party and civil service of anyone who tells uncomfortable truths, and replaced them with nodding yes men and stooges. Awarded contracts for millions, billions even, to incompetent arseholes like Dido Harding and whoever is mates with Grayling or Jenrick etc.

I hope one day there is a reckoning but I'm not naive enough to believe it. I'm too busy battling personal issues, many caused by the government, to get involved in politics any more. Maybe that's the plan. Make life so hard, people will be subjugated just by the need to survive. Maybe there will be a tipping point but who wants it to come to that?

The tories are ahead in the polls and would still have a majority if there were an election tomorrow. It would be much reduced but the fact about 42% would still vote for them makes me bereft of any hope of things getting better any time soon. I mean, it’s difficult to conceive a less competent cabinet and pm. Before you consider the levels of corruption and lies no one seems to give a fuck about. People are fucking stupid

Agreed but honestly I think there is a strong chance things are going to get much, much worse as their corruption and incompetence catches up on then and really impacts people's lives. The propaganda machine will be in full spin blaming everyone else: the EU, Ireland, immigrants, libtard remoaners etc. But even Goebbles would struggle to fix this, you have to hope that finally the public will wake up.....

No, I don't really think so either. Although the old are dying out and the new generation will never forgive these cunts, so maybe in  decade or so.

Martin Gannon, Gateshead Council. Fills you with confidence in the government:

We have got our hands bound behind our backs and a blindfold on because we cannot get tests. There are really significant problems with the test system.

I visited the mobile test centre. It was like a Del Trotter Enterprises van. The whole system is completely failing.

I’m not having a go at staff or that particular company. Testing needs to be devolved from multiple private sector companies to local public health.

We have got the expertise but we need money and test kits. We’re heading towards a catastrophe until they [government] recognise that.

Listening to James O’Brein....

last time Sadiq Khan spoke to the PM: 10th May

The first minister of Wales has had one brief phone call with the UK government since 28tn May

We’re mostly alone. The gimps from the cabinet are on a PR campaign every morning and that’s about it....
