But obviously that goes out of the window if they have a winter that's far worse than here, people are slow to accept mask requirements finally being imposed, etc., which wouldn't be altogether surprising. Also, are the outcomes comparable with a country like the UK (or another similar-sized one but with a functioning government)? spongebob toonpants 3925
This kid in our Warehouse called in Monday morning to say her partner had woken up feeling shit and running a fever. She called NHS to arrange a test, got told they couldn't do it in person as showing symptoms. Received test Tuesday, did it, sent it back, still waiting for results, so still no idea if I have to test the rest of the staff or not. Its fucking pathetic.
ewerk 30221
Isn't the whole point of testing that you have to have symptoms in order to qualify for one?

trooper 940
Am I missing something here, we keep getting told the R rate is diminishing. Yet the amount of daily infections are rising everyday. Can someone explain this please because it's got me puzzled
ewerk 30221
I can only guess it’s the delay in catching covid and displaying symptoms. Either that or they haven’t a clue what the R number is.
Renton 21231
Where does it say the R is decreasing? We are currently having an explosion of cases, with every area of the NE going up bar York. A lot of this might be down to last minute blow outs before lockdown was implemented. Mind, my observations are that nobody gives a shit about lockdown this time around, other than pubs being shut, most people are socialising as normal. So I don't expect we are going to be in a good place come 2nd December. Personally I think what we needed was a full lockdown which was strictly enforced, not this half arsed shit. If we got covid down to manageable levels by Xmas we might have been able to ride it out until spring and vaccination. Not now though.
trooper 940
This was from the Daily Express 4 days ago "On October 30, the R number range for the UK was also 1.1 to 1.3, and on October 23 the R number range was 1.2 to 1.4. According to the Government website, when the page was last updated on Friday, November 6, the R number for the UK was 1.1 to 1.3." I'm with you Renton mate there should have been the same restrictions in place as the 1st lockdown. But Boris didnt want it & so in his stubbornness came up with what we have now. A "powder puff lockdown" if were going to lockdown do it properly ffs.
Alex 34786
The number of infections will continue to rise if the R rate is above 2 though, even if it’s coming down, won’t it? Although as Ewerk alludes to, how can they can an accurate idea about the R rate with the shambolic testing, tracing etc.?
trooper 940
Apparently a lot of shops have introduced a " click & collect" scheme to avoid having to close this time. I was really shocked by the new daily infection figures yesterday. It jumped up by a 3rd from 22,000+ to 33,000+

Even at 1 we are will have a constant rate of infections and deaths, and you have to take the lag into account. If we get it to 1 expect 600+ deaths every day for months on end. Then consider how the NHS can cope with that. I'm so sick of the incompetence of this government.

trooper 940
The R rate must have been pretty low when they unlocked the full lockdown. Daily infections were between 1 & 2,000 then

Renton 21231
Just now, trooper said: The R rate must have been pretty low when they unlocked the full lockdown. Daily infections were between 1 & 2,000 then Aye, the first lockdown qas strict and got it down to 0.6 to 0.8, but this was maintained for weeks, which in turn got prevalence down. R isn't so important when prevalence is low, especially if you have an effective test and trace program. But without this, R will increase and with it so will prevalence. Prevalence gets too high, you lose control, and end up where we are, again.

Partially because it's nowhere near as long as the first lockdown and also because it's not as strict and there's definitely less adherence to the rules. trooper 940
It's fairly obvious Boris needs to get his arse in gear & call a full strict Lockdown. But he's so bloody stubborn he wont do it. Renton 21231
George Eustace spouting bollocks unchallenged on Marr there. Apparently sheep farmers can diversify into beef, and why can't we get a deal like Norway has? It's terrifying where these morons are leading aided and abetted by corrupt or incompetent media.
