Alex 35095
It’s being reported that police will not have the authority to enforce social distancing. Presumably it’s part of the strategy to blame the general public for the inevitable spike in deaths in about three weeks

wykikitoon 20200
But also, this has sort of being the case from day one. I have recently been past parks and green areas and whilst busier, people are social distancing.

Unbelievably scummy I think you may have redundancy payment mixed up with payment in lieu. Companies can furlough employees while also serving them their notice. So in effect the government pays them 80% of their pay in lieu (company pay 20%) paid over how many weeks notice they're entitled to. This is taxed as normal. Then after the weeks in lieu they will then get any redundancy money owed, this is tax free.

Either way companies can't use the Job Retention Scheme to pay a redundancy. If they have tried to they will not get the money off the government. The company has to pay the furloughed workers up front and then claim the money back, no way will they get it back if it's used for redundancy payment. Renton 21636
So, the antibody test works (pretty much 100% diagnostic accuracy) and will be rolled out. It's already been used extensively in Spain, with a survey of 60,000 people. From what I interpret, the news is bleak. Despite the country being badly affected, only about 5% of people are positive for covid exposure, rising to about 12% in Madrid, which had a terrible epidemic. So, this infers 2 things. First, we are miles away from herd immunity, even if antibodies afford an individual protection (a massive unknown). Second, the virus is much more lethal than thought. It probably kills 1 to 2% of people who get it, and hospitalises 10 times that. Looks to me like a worst case scenario is in the offing quite frankly. On the more positive side, I really think science will get the better of this eventually so that things become more bearable. But I think the chances of getting back to normal in the next few years are slim indeed.

I mean absolutely no disrespect with this comment because i think you've made some valuable insights and have a good track record on analysis of this stuff, but is what you've just said your own personal opinion based on interpretation of the numbers, or is that what the wider press and scientific bodies are now saying? I only ask because one assessment can never be as strong as a body of assessments. And idk, I kind of hope you're wrong.

Just some basic maths in my head, a bit of knowledge, and talking with non-specialist colleagues (medics but not epidemiologists). I'm just a guy on the internet, I appreciate that, but then this is just a message board. Tbh I do get a bit sick of being called a doom monger as Gloom has just done. I'm just trying to interpret facts as I see them, prettymuch what I do for a living. I guess ask yourself would governments all around the world have reacted the way they did if this was not a clear and deadly threat, almost existential with regard to how society normally functions? We're all welcome to our opinions on that, facts however, are facts. You need to bypass the political shit and look to the science for the truth. Some people were hoping there was already mass exposure, with most people having mild symptoms or being asymptomatic. I never got why people thought that and honestly think it was just wishful thinking. I think this antibody research will put pay to that hope unfortunately. Then you have frankly morons like CT peddling his "you're more likely to die in a car crash" bull shit. It makes me angry because these lies affect individuals' behaviours and puts us all at more risk. On a related note, I'm fucking miffed by the government's new guidance you can drive to exercise too, it's going to make where I live much higher risk. Car parks were filling up at 7.30 this morning. Our lock down has been pathetic by international standards and we are all going to pay for it in the end.

Yes, this advice is a nightmare. I live in Brighton and we are going to invaded by the very people who are most likely to bring the disease with them and behave in worst way to spread it. I always thought it was wishful thinking that millions were exposed to it in February /March. I suppose that's why the people who do have it are those who didn't lockdown plus the care homes.
