Essex Police said it was the largest murder investigation in the force's history and the victims were all "believed to be Chinese nationals".

It said formal identification of the 39 people, one of whom is a young adult woman, "could be a lengthy process".

What proof was there to make them believe they were chinese nationals? They quickly came to that conclusion then said the identification could be a lengthy process.

Meenzer could be right .I was hoping the police would have cleared the  confusion up by now.

 Confusion or Confucian?

But, they did.
On or just after the 4th of November.
When they’d had time to investigate the 39 deaths more thoroughly.

The bodies were found on the 23rd October and initially the police believed they were chinese nationals, that we know through the police's first statement.Nearly two weeks later we're told not one of them was a chinese national.Have the police explained the reasoning behind their initial identification mistake? I haven't read all media reports on this tragic incident so maybe all has been revealed and i've missed it.

They were already talking about "Chinese and Vietnamese" victims within a couple of days.

Maybe they made assumptions because it's quite difficult to ask a corpse so they just went with the most populous Asian nation.

Maybe a lot of the people smuggled generally are Chinese so they thought it was likely these were too.

Is there a reason you're asking us to do your thinking for you?
