Ashley & Rafa The Meeting

Not sure how reliable this is but here it is...

From 90Min:

‘Benitez met with the Newcastle board last week, and 90min has learned that the former Liverpool boss has informed the club he wants a guarantee of a £100m budget to take the club forward written into his deal; this excluding money raised through player sales, and not inclusive of player wages.

And although the club are keen to extend Benitez’s stay, there is an unwillingness to bow to his demands, thus the delay in any confirmation.

It remains to be seen whether the club will give Benitez what he wants – it remains unlikely – or whether Benitez himself will be given enough assurances to re-sign.’

Maybe they can split the difference and end up about something along the lines of the £80m they spunked away on McClaren.

" There is an unwillingness to bow down to his demands" Doesnt sound like Ashley's  willing to split any difference

Unwillingness isn't the same as outright refusal though. If it was the latter, surely the matter would be over by now. There must be a general sense that some compromise remains possible or it'd be over.

It does rather feel like this meeting is going to define the next 5 years of our club though.

Ashley has been very clear since the early days that the club needs to fund itself. If Benitez wants money over and above that I doubt he's going to get what he wants

If this £100 million is true (I've no idea if it is) it goes against all of Ashley's constraints. Must include agents fees & the whole of the players contract wages. Never in a million years will Ashley allow that.

Trooper man, you've got to stop reading every negative article on the internet as gospel. There are a handful of people who know what the situation is and none of them are talking.

We'll know when the likes of Caulkin, Bird, Edwards put something out, or the club does. Until then every 90Min or Sunday Sport story should be put straight into the bin.

We'll know when the likes of the Trinity Mirror Group's regional sportswriter of the year, Mr Lee 'Knight' Ryder puts something out, or the club does. Until then every 90Min or Sunday Sport story should be put straight into the bin.

"Fixed your post, wor kid."
