luckyluke 2
From skysports: Newcastle United chairman Freddy Shepherd has hinted that he will consider installing a foreign manager at St James' Park. A dire run of form prompted Shepherd to take action and dismiss Graeme Souness last week, with Glenn Roeder placed in temporary control of team affairs. Despite masterminding a win over Portsmouth in his first game at the helm, Roeder has no plans to take the reins full time. Shepherd has 12 weeks to make an appointment, as Roeder does not have the required coaching badges to take on the position, and the Magpies supremo is likely to take his time. A host of managers have been linked with the position, including Sam Allardyce, Steve Bruce, Alan Curbishley and Kevin Keegan. England coach Sven Goran Eriksson's name has been thrown into the frame, as has that of PSV Eindhoven and Australia manager Guus Hiddink - and Shepherd has left the door ajar for a foreign appointment. He told the Sunday Mirror: "In the past, I have expressed a preference for a British manager but I feel that at this difficult time, we have to look at every option open to us. "That means we will be looking at every available candidate, no matter which country they coach or manage in. "It is a World Cup year and that could throw up one or two interesting possibilities." Despite needing to bring in a replacement in 12 weeks, Shepherd may opt for a short-term fix prior to swooping in the summer. "Ideally, I would like to have the managerial situation sorted out sooner rather than later, but if waiting until after the World Cup led to getting the right man, then I would be prepared to bide my time." Bombadil 0
Fair play to the Fat Man, at least it looks like he's realised his mistake. I'm actually a lot more optimistic about us getting a good manager now.

Guest Sima
I'm still under the impression that if it were to be a foreign manager, he will have worked in this country before.

But the likes of Hiddink and Hitzfeld are only available after the WC as well, so I hope we can read other options into it as well.
