wykikitoon 20112
I am off to Slayley Hall soon for a couple of nights. Anyone recommend somewhere to eat near there? We have a meal at the Hall on one evening but fancied somewhere else the other night.

It's in the middle of nowhere so probably Hexham or Corbridge are your best bets. I don't really know either that well for eating out although Hexham is bound to have a few nice places. The Valley (Indian restaurant) in Corbridge always had a good rep (I haven't been for about 5 years so can't really comment but it was nice back then). The Mighty Hog 518
The County Hotel in Hexham always seemed popular when I'd been in for drinks.
Monkeys Fist 42378
The Angel at Corbridge does better than average pub grub- posh-arse burgers and that. Also has some good beers on.
Dr Gloom 21912
Another shoutout for the Valley in Corbridge - are they the ones that used to organise the curry train from town?
Tom 14011
I thought they still did that!?

Before my dad died, and I got my cancer, might be about 2011, I took my parents to a place about 4 miles away from where you are by road on the other side of the Derwent Resevoir. The Punchbowl Inn it's called in Edmundbyers. Absolute top quality place, with fantastic food, probably about 150 year old. Not too expensive neither. They do. https://www.valleyrestaurants.co.uk/passagetoindia.php I never bothered. I mean, it sounds superficially romantic. But the reality of being escorted onto a pacer by indian waiters, plastic glass of cheap prosecco in hand, is really a bit naff. Theres loads of decent rural food pubs in county Durham if youre willing to drive. Corbridge is canny though.
Tom 14011
Sounds a canny idea for a work Christmas party like The Corbridge Larder is decent by the way & Pele tower is interesting for a pint.

David Kelly 1244
The Rat at Anick not far from Hexham is very highly rated too. Been once for Sunday lunch which was very good. Went on the curry train years ago and while it was canny enough it certainly wasn't fancy or romantic. Warm bottles of Becks was all that we got on the train itself. Mind this was before I was married so you must be talking a good 15 year ago. Their other restaurant next to As You Like It is very good.
Kid Dynamite 7025
I've done the curry train a couple of times. The last time I did it there was a landslide on the track and the last train was cancelled. They had to pay for everyone to get taxis back to town

Kid Dynamite 7025
Id do it again tbf, but as mentioned above it's more a group night out than a romantic meal for
Anorthernsoul 1221
When I done the train years ago I thought it was going to be like an Orient Express type affair, was it fuck. It was just the shitty normal train to Hexham then a curry in the restaurant in the station. What a pile of shite.
