Even screeners are pretty poor quality when you become accustomed to watching 720p or greater.

Stuff like Rush, Gravity, Captain Philips and that are on XBMC in 720p with no downloads or torrents or owt.

I'm forever in Gemmil's debt tbh.

It's a really tough one in my book - to be honest, I think the thing that's been proven with music is that if you make it available for a reasonable price, people will buy it rather than risk downloading it illegally. They still haven't got this set up properly with films IMO - You've got iTunes which is utterly awful (That condition that you need a specific kind of TV to download to a computer them stream up to the TV is utter bollocks - and I no longer use iTunes as a result - HDCP or something like that).

iTunes is also extortionate though - I think Amazon will do it, I'd buy from them and they'd likely be cheaper than everyone else.

Also, this is the people vs corporations - it's not like they don't screw us over at every opportunity. I'm generally ok with screwing corps over. Not that I download actually, but then I don't watch many films.

TBH if it wasn't available to download then I still wouldn't go to the cinema to see it so I'm not depriving them of my ticket money.

I went to the cinema a few weeks ago for the first time in a year and sat through 30 minutes of adverts before the film even started, fuck that.

Only decent? I had really high hopes for it to be honest... not the kind of film I expected to enjoy, but I thought it'd be eye opening and unsettling.

Boy do I love being unsettled.

So you don't download or stream anything?

i couldn't care less tbh who downloads what, i buy plenty as my ridiculous dvd/blu-ray collection i'm struggling to figure out how to store will show, and annoyingly i still have to sit through that "you wouldn't steal a car" shite on them or at the cinema

So what's the moral difference then?

Maybe you wouldn't normally drink champagne, so it's ok to steal it. Stupid argument, as is using cinema adverts as some kind of justification. Do you share all your IP for free, I take it?

who said i wouldn't steal a car, or your email address and bank details to fund the server....

you don't download or stream anything then like the football?

If you could steal stuff and to be sure to get away with it, would you? If not, why not?

No to your question btw, I can see a difference there though in that it's literally not available elsewhere and sky can get fucked. Hollywood though? You ok with raising the cost for me?

Aye, if I could watch the latest stuff on TV instantly for a reasonable fee I would.

I'd argue that there isn't a moral difference per se, but that morals that direct behaviour outside of being a decent person to those around you are artificially created to perpetuate subservience to our 'betters' in the absence of religion. It's not like the writers for movies get paid per sale. They barely get paid at all.

The 'system' lost the moral high ground with the advent of DRM anyway.

You decide what's reasonable to pay now, not the vendor?

How would you have felt if someone had taken one of your sofas and left a tenner ;)

 No, not interested about making a thread about this, I've made my point and am completely unconvinced by the responses. Seems utterly wrong people are watching stolen films that are still in the cinema, just a bit surprised EVERYONE is ok with it, that's all.

And yes Ant, I know how to stream a match. Not something I'm interested in doing though.

If you can buy it, you probably shouldn't steal it. Would you steal from a shop, if not, why not?

Let's not beat around the bush :)

No one has 100% morals. Some have more than others and some just have stronger / weaker morals relating to different subjects.

Most people don't steal from a shop because...

1. They don't want to get caught.

2. It's a physical item.

A download or stream IMO is there in the air, I'm unlikely to be pulled and it's not a physical item.

Is it okay then to download films that are no longer in the cinema?
