Its on Sky Anytime at the minute if anyone's interested. aye, i enjoyed that. one of the mrs gloom's rare good picks. i was expecting the usual romcom drivel that she loves but was pleasantly surprised. It was ok, nothing memorable but if it was a choice between it and the latest Will Farrell piece of mindless shite, Kevin Smith wins every time. The other thing people often forget was they saw Clerks 15 years ago and could associate with it (or at least hope to be the stiff in the bathroom), you look at Zack in his mid 30s and think how the fuck could anyone be so clueless and who in the right mind would want to fuck granny pants? Like Tarrentino, Smith is merely making the same movie over and over. Seven Pounds, I don't know why but I really like this movie and the emotions it pulls. Mmm, you know exactly what I mean HF - we as viewers have moved on from that point in our life so we no longer find it entertaining but I bet Kevin who is at that point in his life, albeit slightly thicker, as we were when Clerks/Amy/Malrats were released, found Zack and Miri a good movie or at least titillating. You say I can't blame the viewer for Smith's fixation but I disagree, Smith knows he makes the same movie over and over, well he does now after the panning he received for the cop thing he did which was an attempt to make a "non Kevin Smith film" (his words not mine) and so anyone who is beyond that for entertainment is failing KS because they should know what they are getting. Actually not half bad for a kids' film - a bit episodic and formulaic in places, but ticks along with snappy visuals otherwise, and it's interesting to see a lead character who's actively manipulative, weasely and unpleasant in his efforts to become popular. It was a studio picture, a first for Smith and most likely he didn't have a say in the cast. Original Smith working title was something like, Two Dicks with Guns. He has a similar affect on nerds that Cheryl Tweedy has on chavs, ie they go into raptures at his very presence. Given that he is a nerd deity, he has a solid fanbase of them who buy every product he offers and flock in droves to gawp at him sweating profusely and telling dull stories about meeting someone famous who turns out to be a dick. Fair play to him he's capitalized on his niche appeal to fat bastards and geeks but I don't rate him that highly and his films have been mega shite for a while.
