Yojimbo.

1961 Japanese film about a wandering Samurai who enters a small town with competing crime lords, who ends up pitting them all against each other for his own gain. Thought it was absolutely class, heavily influenced from Westerns it must be said, but then again watching Fistful Of Dollars, Leone obviously took quite a bit from this film in his Man With No Name concept as well. It also has a nice touch of humour to it as well at times. Class scores as well.

Plus Sanjuro is cool as fuck.

Caught it on Channel 4 last night. Excellent stuff. Always gripping. Forty years on it's still like the interviewed astronauts are talking about it for the first time.

By the way, it's available to watch for free for 30 days using the 4OD player.

A Scanner Darkly

Another one to add to the list of drug films I can't stand. Hated it. Bored out of my brain and waiting out the last half hour was torturous. It's coming to something when Keanu Reeves is the best thing in a film, but Robert Downey Jr, Woody Harrelson and Rory Cochrane act their socks off to such an extent you welcome any moment a character can deliver a line straightfaced.

Funny Games U.S.

Highly recommended. 7.88/10

Is that having also seen the original or not? I've not heard a good word from those that have.

Had this discussion in the pub afterwards. Haven't seen the original and they had.

I'm happy to go with my recommendation.

it's as good as the original. if not a little more polished. all the performances are better bar the father.

and there are a few dialogue changes etc. recommended if you enjoyed the original.

Top shout HF

Just watched it, fucking immense imo. All of them seemed truly humbled by the experience, should be shown in schools as an educational tool to show how fragile the earth really is and how were fucking it up big time.
