Miller's Crossing.

A very underrated masterpiece in my opinion.

Started watching it and had to turn it off. Some of the acting was embarrassing and so was the story.

It's meant to play like a 1940's Dashiell Hammett film. Not really known for naturalistic acting or dialogue. Anyway horses for courses.

Ratatouille

Brad Bird goes higher and higher in my estimation. I don't know where the story was when he took over the project for Pixar, but the film he's made it into is superb. It dares the viewer to criticise given that one of it's points is that even the most average art has importance beyond what most of it's critics will ever achieve. It's also willing to endorse valuable criticism though (when it validates the new against the held consensus), but since this isn't a boundary breaking film and Pixar/Bird have ALWAYS been associated with pushing the envelope, there's no doubt some will see it as fair game for a bit of a bashing, comparatively speaking.

The rat chef stuff is just to keep the kids entertained. :icon_lol:

Zodiac

Nigh on three hours that absoloutley flew by. Like a cross between All The Presidents Men and Psycho. I was gripped and scared shitless.

The Bourne Ultimatum

That Waterloo scene is tense as anything...and it's just men walking. Excellent stuff, enjoyed every second.

Eastern Promises

Not as good as History of Violence.

Dead Man's Shoes. Shane Meadows and Paddy Considine again. It's about a Para who turns up in town looking for revenge. Class - up there with 'A Room for Romeo Brass'.

The Namesake

Simple story of a Bengali couple in an arranged marriage that start a new life in the US. They have a couple of kids and the story shifts onto their first son who strives to integrate fully as a typical American youth, at the expense of familial ties.

Have to say I was choked by it. Excellent performances from both the parents.

I saw This is England before Dead Man's Shoes. At the time I thought it was brilliant, but now having seen both I can say it's not a patch on Dead Man's Shoes, which is colossal.

Would highly recommend the book (the one with the yellow cover that the film is based on). Great read.

Saw 4 - crap (and I liked the previous 3)

It's on my list at Amazon but I'd appreciate it if you were to allow me to obtain it by other means ;) No rush though, obviously.

Looking forward to seeing TwentyFourSeven too which is meant to be canny. Apparently Meadows doesn't rate 'Once Upon A Time In The Midlands' and it's not it the box set he's got out.

Is Zodiac based on the book by Neal Stephenson? Not read it but 'Snowcrash' was good. As an aside, I see the fantastic 'I am Legend' by Richard Matheson has been made into a film starring Will Smith
