Rob Zombies Halloween.

Looked so promising but the 'shock scenes' could be seen a mile off and just werent scary. Also Michael Myers was the spitting dabs of that wrestler Kane which kinda ruined the effect.

Superbad.

Hilarious, much better than knocked up

Funny Games - Slightly tedious in parts, but that probably had something to do with the fact I was Jacob's Cream Crackered and wanted to go to sleep. Some of it was beautifully shot and I loved the way that you barely saw any of the beatings or killings onscreen, you just heard them. It really let your mind go to work and have fun. The scene where the bairn is running away from one of the killers is genuinely chilling and intense.

Thank God Hanke is heavily involved with the 2007 American remake and that it borrows heavily from the original script.

I always order 3 or 40 to get a good price.

Some cracking deals to be had on there. Make sure there's english subs on any foreign films you get.

That's quite a range!

When you can get Kurosawa's back catalogue at £2 a pop or Miike's for £3, the 'add to basket' button does take a pounding.

I think I'd probably still find it difficult to think of 40 Asian films I've heard of but I can see that site taking a hammering from me in the near future!

:yes

Abraham Lincoln

DW Griffith continued his rehabilatation with a glowing tribute to the man that freed the slaves. The only talkie of his I've seen, the clipped sound makes a lot of the editing appear sloppy, but I think muting out those sharp edges would mean you wouldn't notice. Apparently, this 1930 film was the last film made to cover Lincolns entire life. 80 years without another attempt must make this pretty definative.

There's quite possibly not even 40 (can't be arsed to add them all up) named in that thread though tbf. And I've already got or seen a few of them anyway.

I'm still struggling to see the genius in Kurasowa if I'm honest. Seven Samurai was a let down and I haven't been able to sit through all of Ran yet. I enjoyed Rashomon but I've seen a lot of better films Aisan or otherwise. Oldboy, In The Mood For Love and Tokyo Story are still my favourites with Lady Vengence, Battle Royale and Infernal Affairs after that.

Actually I might get a few of them.

Atonement.

Checking internet reviews, this seems a bit marmite. Well, I loved it, but then I love McEwan books. I would rate it as one of the greatest British films ever and it it has the potential to win several oscars.

The macho men here needn't apply like, but it's a crushingly sad tragedy that arises from the smallest of mistakes and ends up ruining three peoples' lives. On the sadness stakes, it's like Million dollar baby multiplied by Brokeback mountain, squared. Actually not particularly comfortable viewing in public, if I'm honest.

And Cath might not sympathise with Robbie (James McAvoy), but you'll have to watch the film/read the book to find out why.

I was just talking about viewers reviews rather than critics, I agree it's been generally warmly received. If you see it take a hanky for a different purpose for a change. :yes
