Guest alex
Tokyo Story - Brilliant Japanese film about an old couple who live in the sticks and go to visit their grown up children in Tokyo but their children don't really have much time for them and end up passing them from one to another until they go home and the mother dies.Sounds shit I know and tbh I really didn't fancy watching it despite being told it was a classic, but it's just an amazing film and I loved it. Forbiden Planet - Somehow I have managed to avoid seeing this before despite it being on TCM about once a week for the past god knows how many years. Another film that I didn't really fancy seeing but I thought it was excellent. Clearly an inspiration for Star Trek but much better than any of the Star Trek films. I could easily imagine Shattner playing the lead instead of Leslie Neilsen but doubt he would have been better. Probably one of the best sci fi films prior to 2001. Good film. Based on 'The Tempest' btw.

Guest alex
I'm not an expert by any means but I've seen The Tempest done by the RSC at Stratford years ago. I enjoyed it though. Edited August 3, 2007 by alex

Happy Face 29
Tokyo Story is the only Ozu I've seen. Thought it was alright. Don't get why he's a genius though. So he puts his camera low down.

I know what you mean about Ozu (like you Tokyo Story is only one of his films I've seen) but he must have been doing something right to keep me interested in a film where barely anything other than the mundane happens in 2 hours +. I just thought it was really touching, especially at the end with the youngest daughter and the wife of their dead son.

Already dead at the start so I'm not spoilling it for anyone by saying this. I'd like to add that I think this would be an ideal film for Wacky to see

Gejon 2
London To Brighton. Grtty Britflick. Would recommend it. I think I've got that on the way from Lovefilm, looking forward to it. Today I've watched The Night Listener which was alright, and also The Black Book but I was tired so I kept closing my eyes and missing the subtitles therefore I didn't follow it too well.. not bothered enough to watch it again. Me too, knocked the priority up one after reading this thread Lovefilm is excellent. Me too now. Got it ready to watch

Tooj 17
Apocalypse Now. Hadn't watched this masterpiece for such a long time until I sat down last night and put it on. Still breathtaking to this very day, from everything of the scenery, the apt choice of music during, the acting, the intensity and how it divulges deep into the personal side of war that you don't often get to see in films, or in fact they want you to see. In short, amazing.
