Tdansmith 3259
Monopoly games really were used in WWII to help people escape. Allied intelligence sent packages to their POWs that featured clandestine escape kits, which included tools like compasses, metal files, money, and, most importantly, maps all disguised as parts of the game.
Tdansmith 3259
opps ! I just realised that I never actually posted the film I was watching last night and instead I posted some random fact related to the film. The film was " A Call To Spy" and it was very good btw. Monkeys Fist 43059
Four innocent young lads, a few rough, bearded types, and an old lad with a weathered pole all come together over a ring. There’s a one-eyed tower of power too.

Howmanheyman 33819
The Arctic Convoy. A Norwegian film about a particular merchant navy convoy to Murmansk during the war which was ordered to scatter and got into a load of trouble. Love maritime stuff and this is a more than decent action film. It's only got a 6.5 rating I noticed which I can only put down to it being subtitled and the people marking it down expecting to see something more American based with US actors?

Why didn’t they use Cluedo? That way they could’ve sent them guns, daggers, rope, etc.
Howmanheyman 33819
They could've sent them bicycles so they could play chicken with the German guards by cycling towards the gates then turning around last minute but actually riding through when the guards got bored and started doing something else.

Also, just to fool the guards, they could approach the gates along the fence with the exit to freedom on the left, indicate right when they get there but actually turn left on the sly.

Gemmill 45997
Blade Runner 2049. I watched them both over the past couple of days, and 2049 is way better than the original. Well worth a watch if you haven't bothered with it.

Although I’m not sure agree re: it being much better. I still prefer the original but admittedly haven’t seen it in ages. Although I have seen it lots of times. I was expecting 2049 to be a bit shot and a let down but it managed to live up to the original. The book is really good too. Not too complex by PKD standards either. That is not me suggesting you require a novel to be simple btw but some of his stuff is a proper head fuck
Gemmill 45997
I think I read the book ages ago and remembered not really knowing what the fuck was going on, so you might be right. I watched the original release of the original, not the directors cut or final cut, and it just felt a bit disjointed. I'm sure I've heard it said that the longer versions of the original (which are the director's preferred versions) fix that, so it might be that I just picked the wrong version. Nobody was sitting in the cinema for nearly 3 hours in the 80s very often.

Nobody was sitting in the cinema for nearly 3 hours in the 80s very often. I think the original cinema release is the one with the voice over? Which I don’t think Ridley Scott liked. The studio iirc wanted it included because of the ‘neo noir’ style of the film. By having the voice over by Deckard it was even more of a nod to those early Raymond Chandler adaptations like The Big Sleep. It’s definitely an inferior version and has a different ending. I think that’s the one available for free on Freely or one of those apps. I tried watching it not too long ago and the voiceovers give it a bit if a corny feel imo. It’s completely unnecessary too and removed sone of the essential ‘coldness’ to the character imo. There’s a 1992 Director’s Cut, which is the first version I saw, I am fairly certain. Then there was a final directors version for the 25th anniversary or something. Scott reckoned that 92 version wasn’t actually his version and only the later one is a true director’s cut. Although you’d probably have to watch them back to back to notice much difference. TL:DR, watch one of the newer versions (I think they’re only c. 2 hours long so not too indulgent by Scott). Gemmill 45997
Oh in that case I think I watched one of the newer ones cos there was no voice over. I still think 2049 was a big improvement. I was thinking about that Sean Young wife who played Rachel. I remember as a kid all the patter about how she was "difficult to work with" and how that more recently was exposed as code for "not up for being knobbed by studio heads". Turns out she filed a complaint against Weinstein in 2017, so it was probably mostly that cunt.
