It was an amazing piece of cinema in that environment, don't think it'd be anywhere near as good at home. We watched it with a view to going to see the latest one at an IMAX. But when you turn to the missus with 25 minutes to go and say "This is fucking shit isn't it?", and she agrees, there's no need to be watching the sequel. I genuinely turned it off with about 25 minutes to go cos I was so fucking bored, it was noisy as fuck, and I didn't give a shit how it ended. This. It was crap. If you want a rating I'll give it 3. Gemmill 44090
That's "average" on CT's scale. 2.9 if you want to drop it into "slightly bad".

Aye, I've got zero interest in watching an origin story for Furiosa. She wasn't mysterious enough a character for me to give a shit. First film she was in told me everything I needed to know about the character. Buuuuuut Fury Road was an absolute blast.

I'll admit horror isn't my thing, but Hereditary, Get Out, Train to Busan all got good reviews on there release? Sci Fi - Arrival, Ex Machina, Mad Max Fury Road, Arrival, Annihilation, Interstellar, Dune, Fantasy is trickier. But the Dungeons and Dragons film was a laugh, I guess? War - Hacksaw Ridge, Dunkirk, Openheimer, 1917 Crime - Knives Out, Promising Young Woman, Good Time, Hell or High Water, Nightcrawler, Prisoners None of them sequels, none of them remakes, no Marvel film or DC, Fucking hell man, a lot of the films are hardly recent are they? Interstellar, which I do not rate at all, a poor man's 2001: a Space Odyssey, is a FUCKING DECADE old. A lot of the others you list are similarly old. You've made my point. Post-covid, the film industry has been terrrible. The studios are devoid of any ideas and unwilling to take risks, so just stick to the tried and tested formulaes. CGI has made things worse. Last year the hype about Oppenheimer and Barbie was ridiculous. Both mediocre films at best. Yeah, yeah, as if anyone really gives a shit about McCarthyism nowadays. But let's pretend anyway. 🥱

Also, CGI is a stick used to beat modern movies, but to be honest bad CGI is usually because the studios don't give the CGI artists enough time or money to get the job done right. Good CGI isn't praised because often you don't notice it. I don't blame the tool, or even the craftsmen, I blame the studios. Just curious, what was the last film you actually enjoyed? Is it just age? I mean, all the evidence kind of points that way. Not just films, but music as well. But then, I kind of think I can make an objective case as to films being worse. It really is a case of running out of ideas. I could evidence this by counting the number of sequels and remakes on a spreadsheet, but as CT says, how about no. I reckon most people on here would agree with me and Fish is just being wrong or contrary. As for music, well, in the days of manufactured boy and girl bands and talent shows, streaming, a mega tours, it's fair to say at least its changed. Not for the better imo. But even in music you see the same trends as in films. Bootleg bands literally imitating those that went before. This wasn't a thing until Bjorn Again in the early 90s, and just feels like there's only a finite amount of creativity which has been used. It's actually a really good channel - he's a former musician/producer who does great breakdowns of famous songs using the original stems to look at different parts of songs, etc. He produces very good guitar/general music instruction stuff. And every once in a while he allows himself to be horrified by the Spotify Top 10 and records it.

I enjoyed Oppenheimer. Just don't think it was a great. Saltburn was probably the last film I really enjoyed, but it was pretty predictable and not a classic either. Also, I watched it at home. We're 3 1/2 years in to this decade and seriously, what have we had? I think another thing is the format is a bit dead. With streaming, stories can often be told better in a series, and that makes more sense for the streaming platforms for advertising/enticing viewers. I'm not complaining about small screen productions, they've never been better. More that there's nothing in the cinema I care for.

Gemmill 44090
The Guardian ran an article on him recently cos his channel has got so huge that he's now interviewing musical greats on there. I think Joni Mitchell saw him break down one of her songs and got in touch with him about it.
