I've only seen the Frank Sinatra one and was considering the remake. Meryl Streep is generally worth watching.

Sinatra, Janet Leigh, Angela Lansbry (that spellings probably miles off) and the other bloke who's name escape me are all better than Washington, Streep & what's his name. There is no real comparisson to the Janet Leigh character. I think if you combined the two you would have one hell of a film though.

I was trying to be kind about the movie I though Luke had bought, I was also not a fan, and am also a fan of Depp. Although I do think he only really plays himself, it's a good self to play. It's just one that you disliked most. 180442 Not seen it but the phrase "mixed reviews" springs to mind. By the way HF, have you heard any comments re: 'A Scanner Darkly'? It's an excellent book and I like the idea of the cartoon effect (for want of a better description). Never too sure about Keanu Reeves though. Happy Face 29
Is it Tarantino or Miramax that choose to fleece his films for every penny? I think there's 3 Pulp Fictions, 2 Jackie Browns, 12 or so Reservoir Dogs. Kill Bill was stretched over 2 filmsm, each with an initial vanilla disc, then a special edition to follow, then the thetrical release of the combined film, then that on DVD... It was canny but not all it was made out to be. 180439 It's quite obviously faithful to the graphic novel and is a fucking horrible pubescent wank fest as a result - so yes it could be said to achieve it's aims but anyone who likes it spends too much time alone with their penis. FACTATHON! If that's your benchmark then the puerile drivel on daytime US TV is some of the best entertainment in the world.

It amazes me that anyone could prefer Paycheck over Sin City. If you are happier with the standard chase, loud explosion, big orchestra, fast cuts to give the illusion of a fast moving film, guy and girl get it on action shit that gets endlessly reproduced Paycheck will provide you with the same enjoyment as any of the others like The Island or I, Robot. I've never seen anything like Sin City.

What about the portrayal of the women in it, how is it not a wankfest? A plot and vaguely believeble acting helped the movies you've mentioned, by the way. They might have wore skimpy outfits, but there was no gratuitous sex scene that dragged out for 15 minutes and served no purpose but titillation, like you get in the average hollywood actioner. Those scenes offend me more than anything in Sin City.
