Anorthernsoul 1221
Oppenheimer, very much enjoyed it, excellent performances from Murphy and Downey Jr and really well written with a multi faceted story. Asteroid City, I can see why it's had mixed reviews as it's much a story about nothing really but as a Wes Anderson fan I loved it!

Dr Gloom 21924
Die Hard and Back to the Future have definitely flirted with my top 10 in the past. As has Blazing Saddles

And Avengers I know it won't be to everyone's taste, and Avengers Infinity War is perhaps a better standalone movie. But Endgame was a good movie, with a load of fan service thrown in, felt like a worthwhile culmination of 21 movies.

Renton 21626
Took the day off work today with the intention of solo walking in the Cheviots, couldn't cancel it, so binned the walk off with the rain and treated myself to Oppenheimer in iMax instead. First time I've been to the cinema to see an adult film in years (not that type MF). Anyway, the seats are lush and it's going to be hard going back to the pleb seats after that. You need them for the 3 hour film plus 30 mins of adverts though. What have I just seen? I enjoyed it but this was much more like an Oliver Stone film than a Christopher Nolan one. I loved the science/war part but was less keen on the Mccarthyism witch hunt plot which bookended it. I remember Nolan insisted no CGI was used in the film which showed, Trinity looked like a banger going off in my back garden. A solid 7/10 and hope it gets some people interested in physics. It's an amazing story.

The Fish 10857
I don't mind good CGI, loads of films use them and you don't even realise it. The issue is the bad CGI. The early attempts at de-ageing, sometimes where they replace people in their entirety the CGI-people lack weight and natural movement. Like Superman's moustache removal. It was so badly done that the disbelief that I'd already suspended for people shooting lasers out of their eyes, just couldn't be suspended any more and it took me out of the movie. But then the CGI in 1949, or where it's used to fill in landscapes or crowd shots is fine. And obviously stuff like Avatar is amazing visually. I don't mind it either, it's elevated cinema to another realm obviously. But this is such a fascinating and complex bit of history it doesn't need any CGI. Simple as that really. And yet despite being in an iMax, the explosion gave no idea of scale and looked nothing like the library film (some of which are utterly amazing btw, as they were shot at an amazing 3,000,000 fps!). Nolan said he wanted to focus on the characters reactions, which is fair enough, but he let his purity to avoid CGI get in the way here imo. Still a cracking film though and will clear up in the Oscars, I'd be amazed if Murphy doesn't win best actor.
