I always hate seeing a 'Brit' win it as their speeches are usually fucking cringeworthy and 100% tailored to the US audience to look quirky and eccentric, you then have to see and hear it a good few times on UK TV/radio as the news presenters gush and wank themselves into oblivion over it. It's only slightly less embarrassing than anyone in the media or in power blethering on about the 'special relationship' whenever there's a yank around. Oldman's speech was nowhere near the worst I've heard from a Brit but he was definitely skirting close to the traditional Brit feigned eccentricity bollocks.

i thought oldman's portrayal of churchill was a bit shit tbh. the physical transformation was incredible, but that's surely more down to the prosthetics, and his accent was all over the place. john lithgow was way more convincing in the crown, and he's a yank

1000000% agree with this. Thought Lithgow was superb.

While while I’m honoured you agree, can I ask you change that x-rated avatar? Some of us are browsing at work!

I haven't seen it for about 15 years but I don't recall many of them being cast purely for their acting ability

You Were Never Really Here.  Joaquin Phoenix as a killer for hire specialising in the child sex trade.  A brutal watch, particularly for a Sunday afternoon, but unlike most films these days it's not overly long.  Phoenix is excellent making the best use of a hammer since Oldboy.

Marrowbone is a good intelligent horror, well received by punters but not the critics and The Babysitter is a lot of fun.  That's the new horror/comedy from McG, not the mid-nineties Alicia Silverstone vehicle.

Two top-notch comedy-horrors in quick succession from Samara Weaving who played the ditzy girlfriend in Three Billboards....

I was surprised when I saw his name in the credits, but I guess comedy horror is the level of serious he should stick to.

A Quiet Place is good. It's mental how many utter cunts come to a film that's all about silence with their plastic bag collection though.

I saw that the other day too.  I thought it was pretty well made and acted but I struggled to get over the gaping plot issues

Why haven't the military just nuked these monsters/aliens, why hasn't any government scientists come up with a sound based weapon against enemies who are basically giant ears, who in their right mind would risk having a baby in these circumstances (I know she's belting but cum on her tits ffs), how come these things can hear a small noise when they're nowhere to be seen yet they can't hear a smaller noise when they're just round the corner?  At what point does their super hearing stop working?)

.  I found it worse than Signs in that sense.

I also went to see Ghost Stories the other night.  I have to admit I was shitting myself somewhat at the Paul Whitehouse section.  The other two stories weren't quite as strong and the ending was a bit of a let down but it was still well worth a watch.  It's certainly one of the best horror's I've seen in a long time.
