Watched the Cobain doco.

Not to get all psychoanalytic or anything, but I reckon that, given that Kurt was such a hyper sensitive person, he ended up with Courtney Love because she is a full blown narcissist. The tipping point for me came near the end of the doco where she is being interviewed. The interviewer asks, 'Most people don't like criticism, but Kurt seemed hyper sensitive to being criticised. What do you think that stemmed from?' The mole then goes on to talk about herself, and how she nearly cheated on Kurt, for some reason, for about 2 minutes without even attempting to answer the question. No empathy. Completely focused on herself.

Wouldn't surprise me if Kurt's mother were exactly the same. Which would explain Kurt's attraction to Courtney Love in the first instance. There are hints that his mother is a crazy bitch but the doco kind of went in a different direction. I would have liked Kurt's father to have had more to say about Kurt's childhood.

I'm disappointed the doco didn't really go into the criticism of Courtney Love at all, but I understand that they needed to be nice to her to get access to the tapes and home videos. I think they left just enough in there though to let the viewer see the sub-text. Or maybe I'm just pre-disposed to thinking she's a mega-bitch, I don't know.

Overall, I really enjoyed the doco. Classic three-act tragedy. So sad.

Apparently the new Amy Winehouse doc is very good at criticising those around her and those distantly enjoying her demise.

It's all archive footage as well. No talking heads, just audio interviews.

Same bloke that made Senna.

Haven't seen it yet, but apparently there's footage of her dad showing up with a camera crew when she's trying to rehabilitate*.

*not sure if it's a rehab facility or just a holiday.
