Rob W 0
Uefa has decided to make changes to the qualifying format for 2008. The qualifying phase will consist of six groups of seven teams (Group B-G) and one group of eight (Group A). But this time there will be no play-offs - the top two in each of the seven groups will automatically go through to the finals. As hosts Austria and Switzerland are guaranteed their places in the finals, alongside the 14 qualifiers. When the qualifying gets under way in September 2006, the teams will play each other country in their group home and away, with the final round of games taking place in November 2007. And the draw for the Euro 2008 finals is provisionally scheduled for December 2007.

Even if we do drop points to them though I can see them dropping points to the likes of Israel and Estonia. Group D looks like a fucking nightmare, glad we're not in there. sweetleftpeg 0
I'd usually be confident at this point, but then I remembered that we'll probably have Steve McClaren in charge. Well, at least the Irish press can't accuse Staunton of only getting the ROI through because they had a piss easy group.

They were asking someone canny high up at Boro about it and he avoided answering the question.
