Essentially no protections, like you say. Ours being US owned East Coast life science types kept their own expensive staff, but went for European countries with worse protections first(who would have thought this was possible in the EUSSR? But I digress). Our Polish colleagues got a video call, were made some severance offer, and to get it they had to type up and send their resignation e-mail while they were in conference. If they refused, wanted to discuss with a partner etc, the offer was cut. They absolutely hated the hoops they had to jump through in the UK but still got rid of 50% of us and caused a lot of distress. Never wanted to work for them since.

Renton 23584
I don't know how Americans aren't in a constant state of anxiety given the fragility of their jobs AND that that is linked to their access to healthcare. Seriously, FUCK THAT.

Seriously, FUCK THAT. We got taken over by an American firm last year. The bloke who flew out to the launch from America, who was meant to be the head of our region was negotiating a settlement the day he landed in blighty . A week later the head of corporate finance (who was meant to be our main contact throughout the integration) was suddenly no longer with the business too. I don't think I can count how many people who have suddenly disappeared from the internal contact list since. The only time we find out anything is when they are pushing public notifications celebrating an internal promotion into a job we believed was already filled . The sacking culture in America is absolutely mental to me.

Finally got through my checks and got my unconditional offer. The day after it was announced I would get a significant bonus in next month's pay check. Even though its stated the bonus is for my 2024 performance, no way will they be giving me this now. I can't delay in handing my notice in either as they need me in my new role ASAP. And if I don't take this role, the door will well and truly be shut on me, so its now or never. Fucking timing man. Oh well there are more important things than money I guess. Mental health, certainly.

They won't all be firings, not long after I joined I was over there and chatting to one of the PM's and he said "haven't told anyone yet, but I've got a new job and I'm resigning" I asked where he was going and what's your notice period, he said I'm leaving on Friday and start new one Monday!!!. It's crazy, my notice period was 3 months and these fuckers just piss off same week, no handover, nothing, one of the VP's did same just quit for a new job and was away end of the week. Other side of the coin is brutal though. Was is an all hands yank town hall thing and the Company President was spouting the usual bollocks, at the end he said "as you know so and so's son has been seriously ill and as you know she's been absent to look after him, sadly she's used all her vacation time so we're having to let her go, as I know she was very popular and a valued member of the team we're going to have a collection for her as it will be difficult for her, I'll be sending an email with details for you to give generously" was fucking gobsmacked.

Frequently stay logged on 'til 7 pm, mainly because I've taken out 2 hours to go for a walk midday or something. I make up my 8 hours a day (but those do included faffing around on here), but no more. But sometimes when I'm logging off at 7 pm, I notice the Delhi crew are still online. That makes it gone 12 midnight there the fucking saps. Then around midday, up pops my US boss. "Starting work early today at 7am boss?". "Oh no, I'm on the west coast today, it's 4 am". Fuck. Right. Off.

It's been scarily the opposite for us, so far. We've largely been left alone - treading water - and getting any kind of confirmation on anything is like pulling teeth. The firm is PE backed so are in a constant state of acquisition so the corporate finance team are usually tied up in other stuff. Most of the management team above us that manage the region are Canadian too who are far more like us than they are the Americans - which has meant a relatively nice introduction into North America rather than dealing with a sea of yanks who have no idea that the world operates very differently to how they are used to over there. I worked in IT systems/software delivery, teams were made up of UK/US/India all reporting to US and the customers were all over the shop, I reported into the US and my direct boss was a yank. The Indians graft like fuck because it's their route into the US there were several who I know of moved that way, they probably thought US working practices were like a holiday, they only had to work through the night couple of times a week instead of every fucking day. Tesla is currently hugely overvalued imo, mostly because this cult of personality around Musk. If they see significant falls in sales, coupled with the revelation that the emperor has no clothes then the whole thing could come crashing down.
