After Real Madrid and Barcelona have been taking the piss with their wages for decades, this is rank protectionism. Won't our tax rates mean that it's harder for us to offer similar net wages than it is in more loosey goosey countries?

Alex 35083
Could see the threat of the ESL again, which basically just seems to be a tool for Uefa to pipe down at this point
v.old 76
The genie is out of the bottle on this, don’t know why UEFA can’t get it; they already let it happen. Are selling clubs really going to want artificially depressed revenues from mega-rich buying clubs observing spending limits in the interests of, ahem, equality? The motivation for back door off the books payments would massively increase. The game would be more corrupt
The Fish 10857
Aye it'll keep being used as a bogeyman, until the established elite get all the benefits the ESL without having to leave the CL.
The Fish 10857
A hard wage cap is surely quite easily circumvented with larger signing fees, performance bonuses, etc?

Spot on, they’ve been wanking themselves silly over Real Madrid winning CL after CL with their fucking super team, the wages of Bale, Benzema, and Ronaldo alone would have been eye watering let alone the rest of their team. We’ve had years of Italian sides dominating Europe, years of Spanish sides, what’s the difference if it’s a few years of Premier League dominance? This constant outrage that football was this totally equal game and has now been ruined is laughable, just like the whinging about Man City winning a few titles in a row conveniently ignores the fucking dominance of Manchester United and how they drained the best talents from all other PL sides for yonks. For a long time Barca and Real Madrid enjoyed massive financial advantage over the PL sides since they hoovered up the lions share of TV rights while the PL sides had more of an even split - again something conveniently ignored now the PL sides are getting similar TV revenue despite the more even split across the league. Gemmill 44887
Aye everyone talks about Ferguson's 13 titles with complete reverence. Man City win a few and the game needs ripped up and starting all over again.

Y'know, aside from buying the best players in the league from their rivals like Berbatov, Cantona, Carrick, Cole, Ferdinand, Keane, Lukaku, Maguire, Mata, Rooney, Sheringham, van Persie, Yorke... Or spending inordinate sums of money on foreign stars like Di Maria €75m, Pogba €105m, Sancho €85m, van Nistelrooy €28.5m, Veron €42m. Since the PL began, they've spent over €15m on a player 50 times, spending as an average €40.2m

wykikitoon 20150
Looking at the British transfer record, is interesting. All the talk of City spending, they have broken it twice. The last time was in '08 with Robinhio. Again, Man Utd have broken it more! Liverpool surprisingly have only broken it once.

It may have been on here, or somewhere else, but I saw a list of transfers that were adjusted to today’s values, and Shearer’s was way out in front at £222 million. I absolutely expect that we’ll break our own record at some point in the near future.
