In my experience of working on listed buildings, there's more chance of the Mackems winning the Champs League this year than getting any consent to do anything NEAR the terraces.

Think wor lass must have turned into a listed building 😳

Surely we can revisit the 90s plan of castle Leazes if expansion is impossible? Re-jig it, make it space age, eco-friendly, build it behind the Leazes end, move in when done, make SJP into an actual park so the carbon footprint is reduced. Going off twitter there's more than a few humble-brag-I'm-alright-jacks who think they're supafans and fuck everyone else despite the fact that some of them are relative Johnny come latelys themselves. Mind, saying all that, an out of the city centre ground has to be a non-starter.

I think a massive opportunity was missed when the brewery buildings were razed. Barrack Road could have been 'lost' in the redevelopment with the stadium itself rebuilt slightly west, possibly being orientated playing west to east. Not unlike what Spurs have done.

Safe to say nothing will be allowed to happen with Leazes Terrace. Even incorporating it into the structure of the stadium will be dismissed by English Heritage as the issue has always been to do with the loss of natural light on the western side of the terrace.

Going back to Spurs for a moment however, their plans were on hold for quite some years because a sheet metal works company refused to sell up so that the development could take place. That company's premises were lost in a suspicious fire in later 2014 ... :unsure2:

Maybe it's sentimental of me but I really hope they don't take us away from SJP and that they find a way to expand around it. You can see the stadium for miles around in the city and I always loved the central nature of it. Its home, we shouldn't leave and go elsewhere.

Surely building a new stadium in Leazes Park is the only real option? We can't do as Spurs did and rebuild on the same site due to the fact that there's nowhere nearby for us to play during the rebuild with a capacity large enough that wouldn't see us take a massive hit on our revenue and thus FFP.

Agreed - with the suggestion I was making it was to build the new stadium to the west of the existing one, whilst it's still in operation and then demolish the existing stadium, returning it to parkland. So in effect, the ground would have moved to the former site of the breweries.

Shame we had Ashley in charge at that point though with absolutely zero vision.

Wouldn’t digging down be another option to expand capacity? I agree that it would be a shame to lose an iconic stadium in the centre of town. Leazes park would be the place to rebuild if they do relocate, assuming the dog walkers don’t kick up a stink again that is.

Wasn't the majority of the complaints over the loss of the allotments .... which have now disappeared anyway!

A point to consider is that if we did consider that option again, we wouldn't need to retain that smaller indoor arena that was planned for the existing site. So that all could be returned to parkland giving Leazes Terrace a much better view than it has right now. I wouldn't be surprised if they're considering converting Leazes Terrace into a high-end hotel.

all the talk of expansion or relocation I suppose is ultimately tied in with what capacity is needed.

if monday was anything to go by we'll sell out every home game for the rest of the season within an hour of tickets going on sale and this is potentially just the start.

gonna be interesting to see how big the demand is for season tickets next year assuming we stop up and coupled with an exciting transfer window.

I think we'd comfortably fill a stadium with a 10,000 bigger capacity just on the hope of being successful.

The late 90s expansion  cleared the waiting list for season tickets (20k ish??) back then but we're nearly a quarter of a century further on now....that's potentially 2 generations of fans who may be keen to watch home games. That'll be a lot of people, think 10k is the starting point...

I think amanda and her mates might in for a bit of a shock when they open up season ticket sales again. the website was glitching like fuck on monday for a game against brighton.

gonna be chaotic I think.

Well that's the benefit of a brand new stadium. You can build it to extend the capacity by 15,000 but design it with the potential to easily add more if needed.

hate the idea of the ground not being where it is, so many memories.

but realistically it's the only way to go I think.
