@Anfield Ed on rawk.

"My friend a fellow Labour member is the uncle of Jamaal Lascelles and Jamaal has been informed that the club has been sold."

Mickey Mousers are real trustworthy people, so i believe him :spit:

I’ve ignored all of this given all the false dawns but do we know why Staveley (and her backers) want to get involved?

I understand owning a club as a advertising vehicle or as a rich mans plaything or even a wealthy fan, but are they really a worthwhile investment for rich backers.

Has she mentioned the whys.

I think it makes a certain kind of sense tbh. The club could be a lot bigger than it is - she'll just be looking to maximise ROI potential over 5 years or something. With the TV deal and so on, I imagine they'd get that, assuming we're successful.

Apart from rare situations you can only make money if you are a CL regular with a worldwide brand. Otherwise it is an ongoing cash drain mainly due to player wages. Even if you look at Chelsea who have been successful and built a new brand they still owe/or he wrote off about 700 million plus.

NUFC is a pretty well run club though (financially), and the recent influx of supercash might well be a game changer. Look at Spurs - their model is based on sustainability, as far as I can tell.

If the club doesnt sell by xmas can you see Ashley giving Rafa any funds for January shirely that would dilute any profit Ashley tried to make from the sale. But in the same vein i'd imagine the new owners would expect the club ticking over to a certain standard & so would expect Ashley to support Rafa with funds

So why then.

I have no insight into their motivations. I can only hope that one of Staveley's mega rich investors is sure her to front a bid for the club on their behalf and it isn't actually a consortium.

why did the Qatari's takeover PSG? Ditto Abu Dhabi and Man City?

could it be a proxy? buying esteem? buying and building a brand in developed markets to help mitigate for the day the oil runs dry? just a theory i've read. it certainly isn't to make money.

as far as your russian oligarchs go, it's a plaything for bored multi-billionaires who fancy playing real-life championship manager.
