If VVD and Salah follow suit, Liverpool are fucked next season. City are on the wane and if we have a big Summer I wouldn't put it past us having a push for the league

Although that would mean Arsenal are pretty much nailed on for the title.

Tribute to Australia ??

That would require a tache and a mullet, sir.  And probably a beer and a tab. A tache alone is an insult...

That and they are named after Liverpool's greatest player, no one calls it a tache here, only cunts.

Howard Webb reckons PL referees earn £240k per year on average. That is mad.

I reckon I'd take the abuse that comes with that tbh.

Any entitled footballer: "I earn in a week what you earn in a year."

Me: "Do you? You wont next week, what with the fine. Bosh!"

You need to be a certain type of human to be a ref. I wouldn’t do it for that amount. I hate reffing my lads u10 games.

I'd do it for that. You get to see a bit of the world if you end up doing European games, and if you could stick it for 15 to 20 years, you'd have built a canny nest egg.

Then it's off to the Sky Studio to defend all the mental decisions your mates make. Or if you're Keith Hackett, it's off to twitter to slag off all the mental decisions your mates make.

One of the big bonuses in being a top level ref is that you don’t even have to be good at your job. You can be absolute dog shit and the only thing that’ll get you sacked is if you slag off a Liverpool manager.

The downside of course is that it’s tough (but not impossible) to post on here during work hours.

Lifted from Gary James on bluemoon... figured you might be interested on here too.

This is well worth remembering when someone throws ‘sportswashing’ at you…. Some academic research has been undertaken showing how nations accentuate their ‘attractiveness’ through sport. In essence you could argue this means sportswashing. For those wondering….

The UAE is 21st behind Portugal and just ahead of Norway! The USA is top, UK 2nd…    ( Saudi Arabia is 16th )

You can see it all here:   https://publika.skema.edu/sport-soft-power-ranking/

This is genuine academic research which should be considered, so those who liberally throw the word sportswashing about need to at least recognise that the UAE is 21st, not number 1 or even number 2, 3, 4 etc.

I read the league cup final thread on the blue moon forum,  you lot must REALLY not like Liverpool. that thread, with the odd exception was virtually full on NUFC and cheering/bemoaning everything from a B&W perspective. :good: Any MLF (mackem) reading it would have to be sedated as you were one of their (many) special relationship clubs (whether the other club likes it or even knows about it or not).

We didn't like them before the takeover. But various high profile decisions in their favour (pre and post VAR) along with the infamous coach attack and the general scouseness of their fans have exacerbated it

Sportswashing is a massive simplification by journalists who really don’t know what they’re talking about outside (and often within) their sphere of ‘expertise’ tailored for their even simpler target audience. I think PaddockLad mentioned that if it was meant to make Saudi Arabia (in our case) more popular or its rulers seen in a better light then it would be an abject failure. That’s not really what it’s about though. It’s a vanity project to be beat their regional rivals

Yes. I don't think anyone in the media really cares about sportswashing anyway. It's just a way to generate public engagement from faux outrage.

I don't like the Saudi regime, and I think most decent people would find it abhorrent in many respects; however I dont think most people genuinely care about the House of Saud or what goes on in the middle east.

In reality sportswashing is just a lazy trope to cut us down to the size they think we ought to be. As if in some way it invalidates everything about us. What they really dont like is our success with these owners, not who our owners are.

They can fuck right off, I couldnt care less what the anti-NUFC media thinks.

I didn't really know much about UAE or Saudi prior to the take overs.

Just the standard stuff.

Didn't really care.

I know a fair bit more now.

But still don't really care.

I'll worry about me and mine and that's plenty enough thanks.

What is interesting though, is what effect it is having on the ordinary Mo in the streets of UAE/Saudi.

The press seem to focus on what the West thinks of the middle east.

How much "better" we are, etc.

But how is it effecting the youth in UAE/Saudi?

Is it opening their eyes to western culture.

In that respect it could be a really important step.

Of course it might be the opposite.

Mo public might be disgusted by the way that Joe public has vilified their culture.

ho hum.
