compounded by barnes being a waste of a player and the chook looking like he's gone in the sulks when he's taken away from the left side.

FYP

Basically got Barnes and Odyssey for Anderson and Minteh. Know who got the shitty end of that stick.

no, you're right. our single RW Jacob Murphy doesn't need to be upgraded and definitely hasn't reverted to type after his purple patch

When we had Miggy there..............plus we have had Gordon & Barnes cover when drastically needed.  Its a one player position.  Where's the CB's is two players.  Where we have FUCK ALL depth at all.

Hopefully Barnes gets a chance now. He has never really had a run in the team. I reckon Howe will play Joelinton there though.

I would start Big Joe v little TAA in the final.  Smash the cunt early on.

Agree it’s somewhere we need to strengthen but it’s less of a priority. Could argue Joelinton, Murphy, Osula and Barnes can cover the wing positions. I’ve pretty much written off Barnes beyond being a super sub but still. I’d be disappointed if we didn’t get a first teamer at both RW and RCB this summer though.

barnes has been such an underwhelming signing. one of the few transfer since the takeover to disappoint. he's got a massive opportunity these next few games now gordon is out and i hope he takes it. he must think he has a point to prove and has the chance to become a club legend in the final

when everyone is fit we have plenty of depth at CB  - we literality have one player who seems comfortable at RW and he was signed by rafa

I wouldn’t rushing to start Barnes since, as much as I’ve give him stick, Willock is showing some signs of life again and I always liked him and Joelinton interchanging down the left. You’d hope that Barnes has rediscovered his touch off the bench though, just in case

Yeah, that's never good as it'll most likely mean he'll have tunnel vision when we're on the attack and go for goal himself regardless of whether there's a player better placed to lay it off to.

if we’re allowed to spend again those times could return. That season we qualified for champions league was driven by a smattering of investment and the pure feelgood vibes in the ground after years of neglect under Ashley.

PSR applied the breaks BRAKES on and off the pitch but if we can find a way to invest properly we’ll start dreaming again. We’re not a million miles away now. We have a core of good players. If only we were allowed to spend the owners’ money we could  turn a half decent team into a squad that can compete.

But this being Newcastle, you have to price in some form of crisis before that ever happens.

Fuck me, I thought you were a journo?!??

Barnes was a strange signing, it was like the club needed to buy some chairs because they had a bunch of brand new tables but then some other table became available and they bought those and then had no where to put them and still needed chairs.

Everybody needs an editor.

You’d be amazed if I showed you some of the raw copy I’ve received over the years.

Lee Ryder is apparently a journalist and my nine year old can write better than him.

It’s a strange one in hindsight. One of those opportunistic signings, I suppose, in the sense that a player became available and the recruitment team liked him rather than him being the player in an area of the squad that actually needed to be improved. The problem with that strategy is we we were then prevented from strengthening the areas that needed improvement by PSR.
