Aye, that's probably the long and short of it.

I just watched a couple of highlight reels after @Rayvin mentioned it and he did do a bit more than I remember when he first came in.  Mostly it just saddened me to go from what we were watching under Bobby to the shite we're being served up now. :(

We signed him half way through the season iirc and he looked quality but never kicked on from the early promise shown. I thought Robson didn’t do him any favours as he kept playing him even when his form and confidence seemed to ebb away. Especially as there were other options in central midfield at the time - Speed, Lee, Viana, Dyer

Surely Rob Lee was before Jenas’ time.

Might’ve remembered that wrong but I definitely remember thinking there were other options at the time. Viana seemed an obvious one as he hadn’t been given much of a chance and Robson had spent a lot of money on him

Regards Jenas, I actually don't mind him as a pundit. He at least tries to come up with some original insights. And I think, by and large, he's been very fair about NUFC.

Clearly he's just sticking up for himself in this conversation, though. And I think going along with lazy comments by Gerrard who probably doesn't remember that Jenas played for us in the Champions League twice, got to UEFA Cup SF and QF, FA Cup SF, finished 3rd, 4th and 5th.

Apparently 14 of his 21 England appearances came at NUFC, and don't forget he left us to join a midtable Tottenham.

I put a link up earlier which says he got no more than half a dozen caps here but am not sure how accurate that is. He was sold the same week we signed Owen. We haven’t finished above spurs since.

Jenas isn't in the 40 best toon players of my life time and the most successful part of his career was before he left for Tottenham.  Arrogant cunt.  He is arrogant but McManaman, if I wasn't an ill wreck I'd fuckin hit the cunt if he was ever up here the cheeky patronising bastard, either that or send a shit in the post.

I can't stand the arrogance and belittlement that comes from Gerrard, McManaman and Carragher whenever they talk about NUFC. Really wished we hadn't fucked up when CL football was in our grasp, these three are proper patronising bastards.

Gerrard and Lampard have over 100 caps each and are the 4th and 8th capped players of England in the all time list. They were both 'great' players. Jenas with his 21 caps was never in the same league as these players, and indeed wants to thank his lucky stars he made such a decent career for himself, and realise he was 'average' to say the least. To insult his former team mates with this ill thought out remark ,shows his ego outstrips his limited ability.

Jenas was a 'tidy' footballer.Technically very good.Decent at keeping things ticking over in  midfield ( creating fuck all and rarely scoring). An extremely shit Pirlo.

The best you could say about him wasn’t he was near and tidy. An unspectacular player wildly overrated by England managers. That team was most effective when we lined up with speed and dyer in the middle
